Default Thinking of buying sti

Hei all my names darren from Southampton. ,

I'm currently driving a almost showroom condition e46 m3 but every time I see or hear a blue sti I want one. I could have brought one before my M but didn't now I can't help feeling I want one.

I've never driven one so that's my 1st point of call I guess, I think for the value if my M I could get a nice prodrive car.

So would be nice to hear your opinions and what to look for or point me in the right direction of testing one out, I may not been like it when I drive one!

Cheers

Darren

That would be a good thing for me. Then I could decide weather to px my M3 or sell private.

I have (on track) and it was closish . . I certainly had the legs out of the bends and the type r standard 0-60 is sub 5 seconds anyway so I made a good fist of it. I got the feeling the m3 didn't want to push it that hard and let me go after a lap or so . .

Plus I think there is a handful of guys in here who have owned both so they would be the better ones to ask . .

I'm looking at moving to an m3 next as it's more civilised for working in a hospital!

I've had both

Still got the JDM blob

E46 M3 and an E36 3.2 Evo, and tbh I had more fun in the 36, it didn't have any driver aids and made you feel like you needed to be spot on or it would kill you great cars for sure.

The 2 cars your talking about are miles apart in every department. The impreza ain't as forgiving ride wise as the Germans for sure, and if you can properly drive your m3 then there is just as much fun to be had out of one of those as there is an impreza, if not more tbh, but the impreza gives you something the BM can't, hard really to say what! but I love mine. Also I've not met an E46 I've had problems passing

I would pop along to a meet local to you and have a look about and go in a couple before committing to buying one as not everyone can handle going from a German tank to a tin can so to speak

Is yours standard then ? When you say not had any problems passing are we talking track or road? And corners or straight lines?
I'm just wanting something more fun

Round the corners I have left many m3's behind but not through the subaru having a higher ability but by the Subaru's ability being more accessible. In the wet IMO the m3 on the road can not come close to a sti but as said before alot does come down to driver ability.

With regards to straight line speeds the Sti and m3 are similar but the Sti can be sent for a remap with a few supporting mods and will soon be leaving the m3 behind.

Personally I think if you like and appreciate the m3 then you will like a sti. I've never heard of someone getting out of a sti and saying it was crap and a bit to slow. The worst case scenario is you may not like it quite as much as the m3 but you will feel better when your overtaking one.

Personally I would buy private off a enthusiast but if not Hurst cars is just about the only one I would buy off. Alot of his cars are JDM (Japanese imports) but many would say there the best ones to get and the more I think about it there probably the one you should go for. The JDM sti have twinscoll turbos and rev a bit higher so going from a m3 these could be the one for you.

Here is the link http://www.hurstcars.co.uk/ don't be put off by a JDM import, there as good as the uk cars but just a bit different. Hurst cars will know whats what but just make sure its been mapped to run on uk fuel, all sti's need 98/99 ron fuel (premium unleaded, v-power etc).

you will hear good and bad about most dealers - these guys mentioned in this thread seem to fare pretty well in the court of scoobynet

https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...rotherham.html

their webpage for ease of checking what they have in http://www.jctcars.co.uk/used-cars/s...ts?make=SUBARU

im pretty new to scoobs but seems fairly accepted its better to go for a late 2.0 rather then a 2.5 as they have had some engine issues - saying that theres arguments on both sides of that coin but my money would defo go on a 2.0

welcome to have a blast in my ppp wrx if you get up to brighton at all
