If you swap the pair obviously keep the good one as a spare.
Bit of advice, ensure you swap them handed like for like.
Ie driver side of yours for drivers side spare.
Despite what people stay they are handed!
I have broken a lot on my car over the past couple of years... But my car is constantly getting hard launche, so this is maybe an isolated incident for you.
Have you looked at getting a proper diff brace, no need for a tubular subframe.

Got a Beatrush diff brace so that is going straight on.

Probably only launched my car a handful of times in 5 years of owning it. 8000miles

Solid mounting your diff will make a huge difference. I doubt you'll brake another to be honest

I don't even know how this broke! Driven 300miles over last 2 weeks. Off boost to be fair. But not felt a thing

Been away on holiday myself and only just catching up on things. What a total bugger mate. Gutted for you, but at least it's relatively straight forward and not a game stopper.

You'll get there! So close now!

So its been a while since I have updated this.

the car has been with WMS for a while now and went back in for mapping last week.

before this Andy and Rich drove the car on the road and had a look on the ramp couldn't find a fault which was frustrating.

so back at mapping Steve got it up to bit of boost and again massive vibrations.

again back to square one.....

seeing the cat was at ZI Motorsport for mapping I spoke to them and asked for a full strip down of the rear driveshafts to do more investigation..

turns out when the car had been strapped down the passanger side rear driveshaft had been catching the crossmember.. by this point I had ordered and sent a replacement shaft unfortunately so I now have a spare..

but now all seems to be fine and on Friday hopefully car will be mapped again.

Well it didn't go to plan.........

car went on the dyno... being told the vibaration issue has bee resolved...

So now to the problem...
1. Car only made 340bhp at 1.2 bar.... way to low as on last engine turbo made 457/524 at 1.7 bar..

2. The big issue... filled the bloody garage with blue smoke..

the turbo on it came of a very good friens car and was 100% ok.. im now bening told that there is play in the shaft and damage on one of the fins..

so back to square 1..

ZI are taking turbo off next week and having a look at it so will go from there....

In the meantime does anyone want to buy it?? lol

Gutted for you mate. I've never known a project like this with so much potential being done the right way with so many issues. Some serious bad luck buddy.

Hang in there though. You'll get there!

rite so ZI Motorsport and Steve Simpson have looked at my car..

they both believe that the turbo bearings and seals have gone.

I am being told that there is no smoke coming from the engine at all..

what I cant understand is why the turbo has failed?????

I personally put the turbo on myself and car has done 100 off boost road miles, 1 mapping session for 15mins at are 52 (abandoned due to vibration issue).

1 15mins again at ZI with Steve again abandoned with vibration issue.

then today.. the turbo had no play at all when I put it on the car which I can not understand how and why it has GONE?

Im thinking there could be a underlining issue that could have caused this but what??

can anyone have any ideas daft or not I just cant work this out..

any help will be massively appreciated.

Cheers Ryan

You said one of the impeller blades looked bent? Presumably an imput blade if they told you that while it was still fitted? Something gone through the turbo by any chance damaging it? How is your induction kit before the turbo inlet? Any holes/gaps or areas where debris could enter? Any part of the induction system look like it's degraded and broken off? This could explain the damage to the fins but shouldn't IMO explain the bearing wear unless something else is wrong? Was the intercooler new?

just thinking about this some more, if something (debris) had gone through your turbo damaging the inlet impeller blades the resulting imbalance would wear your turbo bearings out very fast indeed.

Trouble I have is knowing where the debris finally ended up? Bore? Possible bent valve? I really hope not. It's certainly worth asking for a compression test.

Thanks lads

All the induction looks fine.

Car is booked in next week for ZI to look at and do..

Full leak down on engine
Drop oil and investigate
Check oil supply and return lines to turbo

Then I'm getting it brought back to mine and taking turbo off

Have to go from there but not looking good at all

Shame you had to sell it before you got to enjoy it at its full potential, i know how much cash, effort, tears and sweat go into a build like this. Like you say mate you can always come back to subarus if you wish.

What size abw arches were on it ryan, 40mm ??
