Default FORESTER SH XSN LIMITED BLACK EDITION REBUILD

Hi folks

so I got the opportunity to buy a very limited Forester turbo diesel which I am bringing back from the dead,

it arrived very sad with blown head gaskets, hacked interior wiring loom and shot brakes/hubs all round, front strut upper mounts, exhaust shot, but interior full black leather in very good condition and bodywork just dull needing some love again.

so another engine sourced to allow changeover of the diesel to get it mobile again, prep for the engine removal ongoing….

all hubs arrived today and have been stripped, cleaned and repainted to ensure long life, as all backing plate are like new and new handbrake assembly and cables fitted, ready for fitting over next couple of days.

will be removing the rotten DPF pipe back exhaust system for a nice stainless wrx saloon 14- plate system as it bolts straight on, awaiting delivery.

then on to the engine swap, might remove both bumpers to A protect them, and B, allow new fogs and drl surrounds on the front as well as proper tiger seal fitting of the limited body kit spoilers as they have not been attached correctly!!.

will keep you updated with some pics as I progress

Well made some good progress tonight with both driver hubs replaced, and white line anti role bars fitted 24mm dia.

new discs & brembo pads fitted and all floating calliper brackets stripped, overhauled and now working correctly. I have a full set of spare calliper assemblies I will fit later once blasted and fully reworked in high temp calliper Subaru gold paint with new seals and stainless pistons.

already starting to look the part.

handbrake cables to drop and feed in the new ones on with the new rear shoes.

time to dig into the handbrake and rear console to release the original cables🙈🙈

So busy pulling old engine from the car currently, in readiness of clean up of the engine bay, and clean up of the gearbox before fitting new engine.

So some progress today, all engine bay corrosion addressed and whole bay sprayed with hard wearing smooth black to enhance the bay from dull unfinished factory under seal coat.

engine remains to fit new water pump, and the new clutch assembly, release bearing already fitted once the output shaft and bell housing was all clean up.

new braided clutch line fitted and fully bleed, new heater hoses and new gearbox/engine rear support fitted.

Engine awaiting new water pump

New slip clutch on alternator

All pipes and hoses fitted and aligned

Clutch to fit once on engine crane for access

Engine bay looking good again

Engine bay cleaned and hard smooth black painted

New clutch braided hose line and new billet rear engine stabiliser

Ready for engine return

Moved on to my drivers view and sourced a rare diesel super sport clocks set, combined with a carbon fibre steering wheel after some fettling now looks way better in the drivers seat

I'd agree with Lockheed, not enough people understand just how good the Forester really is as an all round "sleeper"

Russell

ps- I might be mistaken but from your pictures, it looks like your a "Kintore" native? I'm out by Inverurie

Just an update as been ill over the last year but with some good friends we managed to get my JPN power folding/indicator with heated mirrors fitted and my updated wheels with new rubber I have saved up for.

currently building 2 different types of rear LSD diffs both 4.44, to allow a choice of
1. AP Surtrac R160

2. VLSD version 2 R160 (struggling to source output shaft ends)
