Thanks again for picking the discs up for me that was a big help
Right quick bit of advice needed... On the first picture you will see the top "cross member" if that's the right word has a straight line bend almost like a length of angle iron 45 degree (struggling to find the correct way to describe this tonight here) but on the second picture it bends even more through the 45 degree, is this correct or do I need to have both the same and a 45 degree all the way along the top.
Pic one straight angle by the sticker.
Pic two bends in further above where the loom sits.
I hope my description makes sense here
Cheers
Simon

Have you checked the inside of the angle for any cracked paint? It seems an unlikely place for it to have been bumped (perhaps by a swinging engine?) as surely the rad would have got it first? Unless they removed the rad before pulling the engine.

Just a couple of quick pictures showing the early stages of preparation, I have to say I'm really pleased with the shell, ok a couple of scabby bits on the window surround but other than that it's solid.... I was very happy today when I had a look over the engine bay plus the ends of the chassis rails that are exposed do not show any sign of age at all, not bad for 18 years old.

It's quite odd really, my old MY00 was great there is no bodywork rust at all the arches were and I believe still spot on, I from buying the car always removed the rear rubber arch edging strips for one and cleaned the arches a couple of times a year plus soaked the rubbers ran a small screw driver down them to clean the muck out and then re fitted, this is an easy job and a massive rot spot which a lot of people over look. The first time is a really deep clean but after that happy days.
When I think of if I have not looked into any "coatings" as yet it when I do I will share as I know your interested for one as well.
Back onto the rust subject... Not the shell this time lol I am hopeful that the subframes etc will be stripped down next week, which will allow me to do some more work after I collect it all, I can then start to get organised as I need everything I want sandblasting in one hit together and then I can set that ball rolling. Then I can get on with the other parts myself, struts and hubs etc. I will then be able to make some progress at home as well, this is what's been slightly frustrating for me is not being able to get my hands on as yet but lets be honest with the weather as cold as it has been its been to cold to work in an unheated garage and far to cold to paint as well so with it warming up everything will be a lot easier to do.

I'm watching with admiration mate, with the intention of getting the arches sorted myself over the summer. I ran a hose up the underside of the arches a couple of weekends ago and was shocked at the amount of mud and crap that came out. I then repeatedly wiped away all the rubbish and rubbed in some WD40 as a temporary measure. God knows how long that grime had all been there.

Have a look at http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acata...101-cat19.html I have used this for a few years its fantastic on everything in the house and on the car including the window frames and facia boards when I clean the arches I spray this on and brush it in then hose out.

Only a small update today, after having the discs grooved by Ian at Godspeed a few weeks ago I cleaned them back and painted them VHT silver today, I'll show some finished pictures when I have rubbed the excess paint off the surface.
I'll clean all the stainless clips etc up next then when the Calipers come back from Ryan I'll pack everything away until I need it. I've had a few delays on getting everything disassembled from under the car so still yet to get into the major parts, I'm resigning my mind to the fact that this project may take the best part of this year before I can drive the car again then the rest will be a rolling project, I know it will be worth the wait and work in the end
Picked up a pair of Group N engine mounts and the matching gearbox mount this week as well so just about there now of parts gathering.... Cheers Stu

Cheers Frayz.... I did have the disc pictures up but deleted for now as I need to rework them as the VHT paint has refused to dry the instructions are quite ambiguous in respect "curing" the paint, it says the paint "can" be cured at running temps but after looking and reading it again I think it should read "must" be cured, still no damage done as I wire brushed some off earlier easy enough so I'll take them back and Hammerite them next.
Still dealing with a few delays but hopefully I will get going soon and then I hope to be up to my neck in muck and making forward progress, I will say Frayz I'm thinking this may take a little longer than I hoped and I would still like to make Uxbridge and RallyDay with the car if I can but we shall see..... If I can just get back on the road late summer the rest I can do as a rolling project.

It's the complete loss of a shipment that worries me Ian in the respect how would I then replace them as its every nut/bolt I can put my hands on that I'd like re coated otherwise I'd go through Alyn with them all. As yet not done any real research on this subject and I'll look to see what I can find locally first.

Ian I run the warehouse within a manufacturing company it may be paranoia but I've learnt if a parcel goes missing its the most important one of the whole week Sod's law and let me tell you Ian I don't have the scope to go grey these days unless its my eyebrows

Milestone reached today..... Feeling relaxed..... Considering growing a classic car restoration beard.....
Seriously it's not as bad as it looks, brakes are being dumped, all items that can get sandblasted will get that treatment so less for me to do.
That's near everything, fuel tank, diff, gearbox, cross members, drive shafts, suspension, arb's, hubs.
Headers for some DIY porting and wrapping.
Fuel tank for cleaning and painting.
Bonus new Exedy clutch fitted.
Drive shafts and suspension parts.... Note a bush missing so I will have to replace the odd pair.
Rear hubs.
Front hubs.
I need to remove the rear dust guards off to fit the Brembo discs, do I need to remove the front ones as well I can't remember ?
Diff and gear box for cleaning up and painting.
I'm polishing these chaps up.
Digging through this pile to see what can be sandblasted then I'll do the rest.
I'll get some more pics of the cross members over the next day or two and then identify which bushes that are going to be hidden when re fitted then I'll change those, also I'll get some pictures of the struts and the springs to show the colour spots on them again for reference.

Best thing really is not to think about it in to much detail
I'll plod through this quietly in blocks that way it's easier to get done.... It's much easier than being under the car with a brush and sandpaper at least now half of the car is back home with me I can have a couple of hours most evenings on it getting it all prepped ready for re fit.
Thanks Joe
