Default Rare original project

So after deliberating what the plan would be with my recent purchase I have decided that she has been through a rough life and it was about time she had some Tender love and care so I am taking it back to as original as possible.

the car it a wrx sti v1 wagon 85 of 200 made in July 1994 jdm.

first port of call was to see what was wrong with the engine as previous owner blew it so automatically thought big ends.

got her running with lots of smoke and didn’t actually sound like big ends.

so engine out disassembled and found block was knackered due to bent conrod, big end gone and ringland failure all at once but she still ran pretty well surprisingly although trying to move it was another matter.

a lot of time and research has gone into it so far trying to source original parts and new genuine Subaru parts, I mean everything genuine.

the only thing that is not genuine to the car is the ej207 block but with original v1 sti heads.

still work to do gaining all the correct parts for the actual body but just about ready to start the rebuild as parts are all here now.

car seems to be very strait with no rust or rot anywhere

here are some pics of the car when I bought it a couple of months ago and of some of the progress so far

Original

Bent conrod

Main damage

Original ports

What’s left of the piston

Damage to bore

Potted and polished

New block ready to be cleaned

So,

I got some parts back today from being vapour blasted and very happy with the results, starting to see the prep work all come together now.

some painted parts and the majority of engine parts ready to go just a bit more prep then the assembly can begin

i can’t wait

Port and polished didn’t turn out bad at all

All brackets, literally everything vapour blasted

Once the head was complete I did a leak test just to make sure the valve lapping was successful. Unbelievably after all of that damage not one single valve was bent and seals were perfect.

Ok so I’ve cleaned the outside today for the first time as I’m waiting for parts, I’m really surprised with how clean it is with no rust/rot anywhere, some faded paint as red usually gets but nothing that can’t be saved.

also noticed some nice extras I didn’t notice before under all the crud.

seems to be a relatively strait car which is rare in itself.

also took the opportunity to clean the engine bay while I am doing the engine.

let me know what your thoughts are on the extras on the car and what they are please guys.

also anything suspicious 😒

oh and before I get a comment regarding the stickers on the back, they were there when I purchased the car but are quite suiting at the minute lol

Before

After

What are these

What is this

Is this any good

Is this uprated

Bumper is going to be replaced and vents fixed properly

Can’t seem to find any rust yet

Still needs jet wash up there

Ok having a quick look online I think the front brace and rear anti roll bar are Cusco and the front wishbone joints are white line but I may be wrong and stand corrected

Just a few updates from tonight, Windage plate, pickup, rcm anti surge and sump pan all on.

trying to post pics of part numbers used as this may be useful to anyone in the future.

couple of extra pics aswell.

also the build has changed slightly and after all that time overhauling the heads and building them I’m now going to be running v3 sti heads once they get delivered.
