I am about to start this conversion so i thought i would best document it.

I have had a recent string of bad luck involving companys failing to provide the correct engine, so i decided to push the boat out.

Firstly i have investigated into what is needed to do this conversion. as of present the parts that i know i will need are:

STi3 Engine
STi3 PAS pump
STi3 Intercooler
STi3 Alternator
STi3 Airbox tophalf
SCOOBYECU to be custom mapped for the STi3 Engine
Idle position switch to be added

Other than this there is nothing else that has been brought to my attention. I have ordered the new engine, removed the old and cleaned up my engine bay. I have also decided to purchase a full set of samco hoses to help with the increase in boost.

wheres the fun in that tho??

while im doing it i might aswell do it properly. that is why i have gone for the STI intercooler instead of my original, the silicon hoses e.t.c.

am contemplating a TD05 turbo, but i am not sure to what power i want to take the engine.

why do you need a new alternator?

The std one will fit on, and has been on 2 other pre97 cars using the later manifold

The WRX one has different mountings. Well, i dont know for sure but the old engine has got to go back to the suppliers (cos theydont know a legacy from an impreza) and the alternator is on that engine, and i sold my original one.

All i know is that a WRX one dont fit a legacy engine, and a legacy one dont fit an STI engine...

There are only a couple of bits that need changing if you are going to do Engine/ancilleries only..
If you forget the engine block i have done this conversion...
Between me and Pavlo we have pretty much all the answers

Rob

p.s. WRX ic will not fit STI manifold so you will 100% need one of those, what do you plan to do about inlet pipe, MAF, fuel rails/inj.... and a couple more bits...
WRX TD05 will be no good unless you convert it...

yeah, i know the TD05 need to be converted to front entry.

What do you mean about the fuel rails e.t.c? its a complete STi engine going in so i cant see why i would need to change any...

Mmm I am some way to doing something similar, mine was 95 WRX. The engine is being built. I now have a closed deck block and STI 4 heads. I was going to use WRX manifold and Phase one rails sounds like there could be problems?
Was told Alternator and PAS pump would be fine as would air con etc.
Intercooler is a Pace front mount and the turbo a hybrid TDO5 front mount etc from Turbo Dynamics with an uprated actuator.
Motec mapping so MAF shouldn't be a problem. Air box went some time ago.

Thanks

Vince

Engine has been delivered today at last.

First thing i need to do is get ahold of a couple of cam covers, however for now i will be putting the engine in with the broken one as i can do this afterwards...

I am in desperate need of a workshop manual as i have got 101 pipes to play with. otherwise it sounds quite simple to do really...

also need to sort out a PAS pump as the original one is damaged
