Default PROJECT DRAG CAR

Decided its time to dust of the old girl and show it some daylight again, my goal is to run a sub 12 second 1/4 mile, as i have never been on a strip before this is not going to be as easy as you might think, with the help of David Coe (Engine) Steve Brogden (Gearbox) this year will be a learning curve.

At the w/e we put the car on a wiegh bridge and it came in at a lardy 1126kg, definatley needs to go on a diet, the front mount mainfold will have to go and replaced with a rotated setup, replace the MD321V with a GT3076. and look at the option of changing from a 6spd to a 5spd gearbox, have worked it out there could be a possible wieght saving of around 28kgs.

My old type R weighed 1231kg without me in (another 100kg) I managed 10.9 with 430HP at the wheels circa 520 at the flywheel.

If you cant do a 12 with a GT30 with a car weighing what yours does there's something wrong. I'd be aiming for 11's atleast.

Good luck, it's great fun and highly addictive

Quite right Daz, I've ran a 10.8 on a basic specced 2.1 motor with a bolt on turbo so I suspect he'll be going a lot quicker than 12s in no time at all.
Good luck with the build John !

Default TYRES

What tyres would you advise I use, I am sticking with my 17" rims at this time as I have a supply of part worn Michelins SB to use up before investing in any more new tyres.

Thanks in advance.

Asked Keith back in 2011 to drive the car for me so I could get some feedback on the chassis development that I had done as he had previously driven the car before, I think you say his response say's it all lol.

It needs to be a strong 5sp to cope with the power and torque.

Nothing wrong with your current 6sp.

Default 3 WEEKS TO GO

With only 3 weeks before we are due to run the car at Shakesphere Raceway, I have hit a major snag already, the new engine is not going to be ready in time to allow any testing, so have decided to run with the current engine which is a 2.5 with the front mounted turbo MD321V but first need to revamp the fuel setup and get the map tweaked, all i have to do now is find some one who can fit it in. (Any ideas. willing to travel)
On a positive note it`s only a setup w/e, so will give me chance to learn the process, hopefully Madhammer will be on hand for any advice if he is not to busy.

ALS/Lunch control?

If not, clutch to the floor, revs to around 5K rpm, blipping the throttle. Lights go green, sidestep the clutch and mash the throttle to the floor. Remembering to change gear along the way.

Sound advice given to me many years ago, by 2 who have a lot more experience of racing than me.

Thanks John wouldn't say all out but there have been a few changes to make the car as best I can get it so the limiting factor is now me. Should catch up at some point.
