Engine is here, just ordered up all the gaskets etc required to put everything back onto the long block. Doing that this Saturday, then it'll hopefully be back in the car a couple of weeks after that. Then the chore of running it in again!

Engine is back in, just need to finish the plumbing. It's bolted down, clutch is sorted, downpipe is on etc. Just need to plug it all in, fit intercooler pipework, plumb the fuel and do the coolant. Then fill it with oil and see if it runs!

Got it all plumbed and wired up at the weekend. Had a few leaks to sort. Ran it up to temp a couple of times all seemed ok. I taxed it yesterday and took it out for a run and it drove lovely. Forgot just how loud it was though Covered 22 miles in total so far.

I will be getting the map checked once it's got a few miles under its belt yes. The only thing that's changed though is 0.25mm oversize on the pistons. It is drinking fuel though, 25 quid of V power lasts about 70 miles I think 😂.
Bit worse than my 330cd to say the least. It drank fuel prior to the engine going **** up though. And I'm running it in so I'm not exactly driving it Normally, giving it plenty of load and some boost to get the rings seated etc. Not just cruising around at a steady rpm. It is puffing a bit of black haze though. But it's got no cats. It's running fine though, nice and smooth, not stutters or hesitations etc. Oil doesn't smell like fuel or anything.

Up to 91 miles now. All ok, not using any fluids etc, temps all good.
Will be swapping the oil this weekend from the Millers running in oil to some 10w40 Semi

Did the oil at the weekend, up to 140 miles now .
I've ordered an AEM 30-0300 AFR gauge for it so I can see what the AFR's are doing whilst it's leaving it's black haze. I've got a bung in the downpipe behind the turbo I can use.
Also ordered a HKB steering wheel boss and a 350mm steering wheel for it as the Momo 4 spoke WRX wheel is just too skinny and too massive

Not driven it quite so much whilst it seems so rich. I think I've found the culprit though. The return line fuel damper seems to be backing up the return line too much which is probably artificially raising the fuel pressure too much. Think I'm just going to remove it for now and see what it's like without it.

I think it only becomes a restriction at higher fuel pressures. For example I've noticed the last couple of days my FPR is making an almost honking noise when the fuel pump primes like it's struggling to pass the fuel down the return. And the return line between the FPR and the damper builds up a fair amount of pressure in it whilst it's doing it. I don't know how quickly an alcatek ECU reacts to it either. I'm going to just replace the damper with a bit of hose later and give that a whirl and see what happens and montior the AFR's.

Well it wasn't making a noise before... I'm running a fuel pressure gauge and it makes pressure fine and holds it for ages after shutting it off so don't have any leaks etc. Leaks at 3 bar are generally pretty obvious anyway 🤣

Replaced the fuel damper with a straight bit of hose, noise has mostly gone away. Fitted the AEM wideband also, I think maybe my O2 sensor has taken a **** or something as the AFR's are all over the place. Sometimes idles around 14.7 to 15, then occasionally the idle speed drops and the AFR goes up to 17.something whilst it's doing that. Just revving it up to 3500rpm and holding it there, i.e no load or anything the AFR is in the low 12's 🤔. God knows what it is with some boost on. I think maybe all of the oil and smoking from the previous engine problem has gunked up or damaged the O2 sensor so I'm going to replace it with a new denso one for piece of mind really. I might also replace the FPR too.

Took it for a run so I could see what the AFR's are doing, most of the time it idles in the high 13's low 14"s only goes up when the fan kicks in really. I may have accidentally turned the boost up 🤣🤣😂😂.
It's too laggy in low boost with the boost controller off and I couldn't get a decent idea of what the AFR's are doing on boost before running out of revs really, I'm only taking it up to around 5k at the moment in short bursts. Anyway it seems fine, ran it up to 1.7bar and the AFR's were right around 10.6 so seems fine and is what it was tuned at. My god I forgot how well it shifts though!! After giving it proper boost the black smoke seems to have cleared also 🤔, so maybe it just needed a bit of a blow out 🤣.
Doesn't seem to be any ill effects not running that fuel damper either.

Replaced the O2 Sensor with a brand new Denso unit, hasn't helped with the rich running. Seems to be set to target an AFR of 13:1 in closed loop.

Up to 320 miles now. Probably going to get the map tweaked around 700 miles or so as it'll be pretty much run in by then anyway. Also thinking of fitting some HSD coilovers as the stock struts and prodrive springs are a bit past it now.
