I have an genuine STi version 4 which I am about to bite the bullet & change for a new 2.5 short block from the US (should arrive on Tuesday). I had the engine dyno tested @ 291.4 hp at Alan Jeffery - Engine Tuner last Friday (chart to prove). The engine is sweet & no nasty sounds from cold but one of the headgaskets has just gone letting gases into the coolant. There has been no overheating or oil/water contamination tho. Car imported in 2005 & has 67000m on the clock a good proportion of these miles will be kms. I think the 2.5 is the way to go for me but there is nothing wrong with the ej20 STi shortblock.

The shortblock will be available in about 2 weeks & if you are in the Plymouth area you can come and take a look & listen test etc before it is removed from car.

Any interest?? Offers?? Or trade for hard labour?? (if you are an experienced engine builder you could have it in return for fitting the 2.5 for me)

Will be removing from car week commencing 19.2 so you have still got time to view running.

Had a few pms- the weight boxed is appox 60kg. I'm in Plymouth. Yes viewings are welcome by appointment. Yes it is a genuine STi block. The block has been removed & currently living at Alan Jeffreys. No, I don't know what other year cars the 98 STi is compatible with. No knock or rattles from cold or when warm. Reason for sale- engine had to come out anyway for headgasket replacement & I decided to go for the 2.5 conversion at the same time.
