When to alter Ignition base and Advance map on ESL ?

In the next couple of days about to fully have a go at using the ESL software to map my WRX, scary times LOL, anyhoo, after alot of info from guys on here (you know who you are :thumb:) and Andy etc i thank you.

so, one last question, for now ;), when do i know to alter the Ignition Base and advanced maps ?

Once i get the AFR`s all good and boost and duty cycles all in sync etc, how will i know if i need to alter the timing and at what parts in the cells etc ?

The map loaded as default is a MAF based map, comparing the timing to my old map on old ESL which was mafless, the timing is quite different in places but i learnt it would be LOL, so cant gauge old to new settings etc.

Are the timing changes for advanced mapping and should i leave well alone ???

cheers

Changing boost and fueling is all well and good but you will never feel the full benefits of your setup without introducing timing advances, be it in the mid range or the top end of the tables.
Unfortunately it isn't something someone can tell you to do this way or that as every car differs greatly in respect to timing as there's so many factors that can effect it.
Its a case of taking baby steps with it and logging, logging, logging and having the det cans on !

Cheers bud, i suppose what i was getting at is, is timing the last part to change for the full benefit ?

cheers

I do timing last, yes.
Just remember one can offset the other though.fuel, boost, timing all go hand in hand with each other, so more boost less fuel can equal less timing and vicsa versa.

I found this post pretty good reading for modding timing!

For info I am running 14 degrees at peak TQ and 20 degrees (total ig) on 1.5 Bar on a Billet 20G. This is with 11.5AFR
Seems to be pretty common timing for V power fuel approx 400hp map!

This is my map below. Still very much Work in process and I still have ALOT to learn!
