Don't worry, Matt. You have a nice face. A bit like Ben Kingsley's. It's just that your bedroom looks a bit too clinical for a bedroom. At first glance I thought your were in a hospital LOL :D Banny also has a nice face; a bit like young Dharmendra from Sholey. He he has no reason to cover it; well, apart from his personal security reasons and personal privacy that he has every right to, of course. :thumb:

Well done with your training, guys. Very good results. Matt, I'd love to punch your ripped abdomen, bud. I punch my son's solid abdomen, and he just stands there like a rock!

I was bracing myself for an absolute slating so thanks Rob and Turbo!

The water pistol is for trying to scare off seagulls that appear to don hobnail boots then stamp on our roof....!

TH; yep, it's not a good room angle either. We did it up a few months ago; you should have seen it before...! Luckily from most other angles, there's a nice view of the Atlantic so we tend not to go mad on interior design.

Was only joking, Matt. :D It looks good. :thumb:

Extremely sore today guys :(

First of all I was doing dumbbell flys yesterday and went too far back on one rep with a moderate weight on stretching a muscle a little too far (moderate weight for me), nothing twanged or tore badly (bar my underpants) but I sure as hell felt it, I managed one more set and wimped out at rep 7 as it was pulling like hell. Then we went onto decline dumbbell press where again I had yet another incident :(. Had to crash both weights over to my right as the said (pulled tissue above) muscle failed with two 30kg weights hovering over my head.... Fortunately my spotter realised I was flagging and nudged the weights which were both destined for the floor out of the path of my face ;) realistically though they were both coming down to my right whatever the situation as my right should/chest simply collapsed and I had to then shove the weight away meaning the left weight was going the same way whatever the situation.

Anyway i got up this morning at 8 bells and headed down to the gym, no better way of checking out the seriousness of the aching chest/shoulder than doing a shoulder workout :D. A little weak on Lat pull downs and a little strange on the dumbbell raises, but other than that I seemed ok. I'll be attempting the arms tomorrow and going for a 5mile run.

It could have been worse, and I am only sharing this experience as I think its worth telling folk where I went wrong so many others may learn from it. I was pushing too hard on flies, and I should have been concentrating on technique paramount, not weight! Decline dumbbell press straight after this buggeration for me was fine as I had a spotter, I would have opted to leave it or gone 22.5kg if I had no spotter. Be careful chaps ;)

Currently at 13.5 - 13.6 and I have now introduced more Carbs into my diet !

Toast in a morning tastes lush after 10 weeks of not eating bread!

Saxo Boy 17 July 2014 09:06 AM

Now down to 13st 6lb from 16st 9lb :) Want to lose another 14lb of fat before putting a good chunk of muscle on.

dpb 17 July 2014 09:23 AM

54 for 10k run yesterday after reasonable paced 20mile on the bike
(had to stop for a pee)

75kg now, but could do with bit more muscle

I've just cancelled my membership - I do 95% of my fitness outdoors when it's nice weather. And have enough home weights/pull up bar/heavy punch bag to keep in shape when not outside.

That's a decent 10k time after a cycle like that.

I still need an "official" sub 40 minute run (only GPSd 38 mins twice) after my excruciating 40m07s race a while back. TBH I think I'm built for trails though and it's what I run 99% of the time. Looking forward to some mountain runs on our month off (27th July) in Europe!

ChrisB 17 July 2014 02:59 PM

I like running on holiday - nice to see new routes. Only downside is we seem to end up in places much hillier than my corner of Cheshire. Where we stayed in the Picos de Europa last month had an evil climb back up to the house.

hodgy0_2 17 July 2014 04:56 PM

we had our village sports day last weekend

I took my Concept D rowing machine to it and set a challenge - how far to row in 90sec (on 7 resistance)

and amazingly I won - 469 mtrs, against all comers (quite a few beefy blokes too)

and I had not been on it for a few months

That's very quick; nice one!

I did 500m in 1m36s on one but felt like puking. Similarish pace.

dpb 17 July 2014 05:26 PM

That's what I'd like at home plus couple simply additions for leg/arm muscle, instead of gym

Must been quite a challenge to moved it around!

Used one, last time I went to the gym

So probably 2001 - no idea what I could do

yeah - I was surprised - I did a bit of rowing on the Thames at school, so my technique is quite good - and then there is the "windsurfing" shoulder too - lol

actually I should use it more, tbh

its pretty easy actually - it comes apart (in half) but getting to the village green I used my trailer so pretty easy (had to take the table tennis table too)

although when I initially bought it - I collected it from Oxford - I only had my A4 saloon, and getting it in was a struggle - although I would not be beaten

and the drive home was comedy, as it took up most of the interior including the front seats - every time i touched the brake, it would move forward and turn my hazards on

I feel your pain, im aiming for sub 60g of carbs daily, only to go hypo on the cross trainer and nearly pass out, did kind of ask for it mind as i have been aiming for over 1000kcals ewd for the past four weeks.

But im back on the wagon tomorrow, and i for one can't wait to see what it brings, diet wise it's just a continuation.

Weight wise i've decided to stop checking, and just go for it but last time i was 216lb and holding steady.

Lost about 11.5kg, now 73.5kg. Was holding at 75kg which I was happy with, but doing hours of DIY last few weeks has lost more which isn't just dehydration - digging, concrete, plastering, sanding, sawing etc. Have liberalised diet with whatever I like a few days a week. I didn't realise I was getting a bit cuddly before, patients have noticed and told my colleague I'm losing too much, staff are leaving cake with my name on it. BMI FWIW is just under 22. I'm quite happy to maintain this and feel good. Not been this weight for about 17 years since before I got married, graduated, had money for food and got a car.

Good weight loss John, but you know that being fit especially aerobic fit is more beneficial than optimum weight, but it's easier to keep fit when you're the correct weight. Good diet and fitness work hand in hand :)

IMHO your weight loss is significant enough to merit a recalculation of the "driver only" PWR of the GTR ;)

How tall are you btw?

john banks 08 August 2014 03:37 PM

1.83m or 6'0"

Rob Day 08 August 2014 03:59 PM

There is some great results there guys, good work keep it up ;)

I agree completely with Andy, Once you are at that "correct" weight or within a "controlled" diet with fitness, it is very simple to shed weight and keep fit. Its knocking the pounds off to get to this "correct" weight that is the largest hurdle to jump, then the rest is a flat run, I'm not saying its always easier for those whom are fit, as clearly some of these people will train hard to see positive results,, but clearly when you are already fit, keeping fit is easier than starting off at anything like 150% your correct body weight.

I am expecting the next week or so to put me somewhere near 1/2 Stone heavier as I have taken to eating at lots of food at restaurants and drinking plenty ale :D

However I did manage what I think what around a 8k run this morning before it go too hot, or at least there I thought!

I have already run 1km to get to somewhere beyond what I could usually see from our Villa. The aim is to get to the cliff edges and see what the beaches are like
http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/y...psf8897427.jpg

That's this shore ran:
http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/y...psf8fb1e18.jpg

Bugger that looks a little harsh on my new Reebok ;(
http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/y...psca53f569.jpg

That that bit run and the beach crossed:
http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/y...pse7718d70.jpg

Another few K past that beach and I realised I was actually just going to end up burnt, out of water, and pissed when I have wrecked my trainers!
http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/y...psc62b0d3f.jpg

So I turned back, good job I did as I was fecked when I returned, and my trainers look like they've seen abuse that they're not built for.

Another odd random picture taken on the way back:

Running 5+ miles every other day wherever we are (travelling did a month) and surfing a lot; just about counteracts the booze!

andy97 11 August 2014 11:05 AM

Prudential 100 boat race

Well I took part yesterday, quite an experience. Rain, rain, rivers and huge floods to cycle through. The route was shortened to 86 miles, which in hindsight was pretty safe idea. Quite a few crashes literally hundreds of punctures. Apart from my water proof cycle boots filling up with rain and flood water, then feeling like lead boots, I had a great time, set a new personal best for the distance.

Back to hotel, showered, food replenish then evening meal :)

I wonder just how much physical fitness you lose between 45-50

I'm guessing its disproportionate

Quite alot if you don't do any form of exercise. I know a few of my friends and they are in poor condition. They just work. You can get it back though :) with some hard work!

I have joined a cycling club and we go out every Sunday for a quick 75 miler, last week we averaged 19.2mph over that distance. There are several guys who are well into their sixties and still can out last me for endurance. But considering I only started cycling seriously last winter I am just a little behind in endurance and start to get dropped at mile 60 mark. There are some quick young men in the group who lead the pack virtually all the time and can cycle at 25mph+ average

The positives of my cycling is that alot of my friends have taken to riding casually for 10 milers and even one who is a smoker is getting a new push bike. Positive role model I have become :)

Matteeboy 19 September 2014 09:23 AM

I think it quite unusual to be genuinely fit past 40.

I did some running in the Pyrenees; my word is was tough but stunning!

Spent the first week of the month in Tuscany. Hadn't realised it was so damn hilly but with the Yorkshire Marathon on 12th October, running can't stop...

Attachment 74324

That was down the hill from our rental cottage (stunning view & incredibly quiet). Later in the week I went up hill from the cottage. 30 minutes to run up, 20 minutes back down

Right then, it's time to jump in to action, I've got 10 months to be ready for my wedding (to a real woman :p). What's the latest developments in diets and fitness? Is there anything new, or the same old, eat less and exercise more?

dpb 19 September 2014 10:06 AM
