Wrx Type RA Version 2 Sprint Build

Well it's been a busy day.
Sold the Wrx this morning to Merv's mate Adam.
Had to swap the Bilsteins back to the TEINs before he arrived from Barry.

Any way Adam took ownership and it was a short journey up to the base of the A4069 Black Mountain Pass to collect the barn find Wrx RA.

It's lovely under the dust but not everything has weather too well.
The boot is a write off where the spoiler mounts, excuse to go spoiler less with a GL boot lid.
Under neath is solid and the engine and gearbox are just brilliant.

It had a new CDB build in 2008 with a receipt to proof it.

Plan??

Fit Prodrive bucket seats.
Ap 6 pots front
Ap 4 pot rears
6 point roll cage
Bilstein shocks and eibach springs
22mm front and 24mm rear anti roll bars
And plenty more chassis goodies.

Progress will be slow, aiming for next years MLR Whiteline Sprint Series.

Any way here's the pics.

Why can't I stumble across any of these great RA finds?? Looks like another with great potential with some nice goodies too. :thumb:

mervil 08 March 2014 09:44 PM

Not a bad replacement there mate :) Adams chuffed with the WRX and he's got a few niggly bits to sort but he's gonna garage it for a while and do things slowly :)

big daz2 08 March 2014 11:03 PM

D great find, I think subaru should be giving South Wales some funding what with all the ra resurrections going on at present. Is this an everyday ra fast rd or full on track beast. Great find mate

matscooby 08 March 2014 11:09 PM

England, Scotland & Ireland scooby clubs. If you wonder where all the RA's have disappeared too, come to gods country, you'll find them going crazy across the best driving roads in the country :)

Everybody knows the fastest colour is blue, get with the program

DYL 4N 08 March 2014 11:36 PM

That's straight line white is faster when it gets bendy and bumpy lol

Fast road and track work. The sti RA will be the stripped out track animal.
I still have to use this back and forth to work lol.

Can't wait to make a start on it.

big daz2 08 March 2014 11:38 PM

Seeing this one I can't wait to get mine now. Nice car to wake up to everyday to take you to work, can't be bad

Thanks. I did know for another one half the price of this with a damaged gearbox down Devon way but the guy has disappeared.

Glad he likes it. It's better it stayed as a clean road car rather than used on track.

The thing I miss the most is the gearbox ratios and the fact it's like a 2 stroke bike. Once your in that power band it's hold on and enjoy lol.

Came with a weigh bridge print out too and it tipped the scales at 1200kg.
Good starting point now to reduce it or mod and not increase it lol.

big daz2 08 March 2014 11:44 PM

Who need passenger seats there over rated. Lighter alloys and helium instead of air should see abit off

esp ltd 09 March 2014 09:03 AM

That's a nice find! Should make a nice car once you've worked a little magic :thumb:

Sorry I didn't make it up I've had a poorly lil one.

The sti is my next challenge. I have what I've always wanted one of each RA.

KJD Mk1 09 March 2014 09:48 AM

That's a great base to start from, must be more in Wales than anywhere else now lol

DYL 4N 09 March 2014 10:12 AM

Lol looks that's way Kev. Keep them coming I say. Where better to enjoy them??

big daz2 09 March 2014 10:14 AM

Thanks Simon. Now to get it to your standard. :notworthy

DYL 4N 11 March 2014 06:51 PM

Just insured the RA with Zara on it for the grand total of £406.

Found that to be ok myself. Lol.

redwards 11 March 2014 07:00 PM

Not bad at all. I pay more for a 1.8 derv focus.

big daz2 11 March 2014 07:17 PM

Who did you go with d I went to Adrian flux for same price but I had to pay a little more for European breakdown cover which we need for our trip

DYL 4N 11 March 2014 08:03 PM

Admiral. Been with them now since 2008 with an impreza on cover. This year is the first year without staff discount.
Never paid more than £500 since 2010.

DYL 4N 15 March 2014 10:04 PM

Well it's passed it's MOT today, took it for a spin and I'm smiling from ear to ear.
God I missed a type RA.

DYL 4N 26 March 2014 11:40 PM

The Prodrive seats are in and sitting lower than before. Modified the seat rail for that.

Wheels are off to the wheel specialist swansea for a full refurb.

Old disks and bells are off to Reyland Motorsport for some replacments that are not machined off centre, these will be fitted when the wheels are completed and semi slicks fitted.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...75cc2bd0eb.jpg

Bilstein struts are going next week for a full refurb too although I maybe at a disadvantage running struts rather than coilovers. But we will see.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...b113be82f9.jpg

Got a set of these to fit too.

Then it's just some small stuff like bushes, anti roll bars, esl sister board and some group n stuff.

Fingers crossed.
Going to busy

Looks like your plans are coming together. I bet you're chomping at the bit to get out and start testing the finished car.

Can't wait Rich, been building the parts up for years. Now they are finally going to come together on one car. :luvlove:
