Jap Import size 410mm x 90mm, If yours is a UK car you will have to use the full size plate or run the risk of getting a pull ;)

Even though it is a Jap import i am still waiting to get stopped for it, It is fully legal but between the DVLA and the police they get confused easily...Especially the police, ive got a few email off the dvla in the car to show them that i can use it if they do stop me, I have the full size on the rear though as it fits the bumper better ;)

Edited to add......:D

If its a uk car stick with whats legal...otherwise it will cost you £60...like it did me!

Unless the law has changed, here is how I see it.

If your car is an Import, and has not been UK registered then you can use a Import sized plate. However if the car is an Import and has been UK registered (pretty much all are) then you have to abide by the UK sized plate regulations.

Regards
Rob

ps - I should know for sure, but I haven't brushed up on the law recently :(

Depends on whether the car `Conforms to European Type Approval` or not, Mine does not being a Jap model. There is an additional sub-section with more requirements too ;)

Is this as a result of the SVA and not a European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval?
I'm interested as I have smaller front plate on my spec c ra, I need a new plate so need to get the exact spec as my current plate.

Is this still correct?

• each character in the registration number must be 64mm high
the width of each character of the number, other than the letter 'I' and the figure '1' must be 44mm

• the width of every part of the stroke forming a character in a number must be 10mm
the spacing between any two characters within a group must be 10mm

• the vertical spacing between groups of characters must be 5mm

• the width of a margin between the number and the top and lateral sides of the numberplate must be not less than 5mm

• the space between the bottom of the number/character and the bottom of the plate must not be less than 13mm, but within that space, the space between the bottom of the number and the top of the name and postcode of the person the plate was supplied must not be less than 5mm.

Yes Jim different requirements for Euro imports and Jap, Us etc...imports and thats the same info i`ve gone off as there have been no recent amendments to it as the dvla sent me the latest copy,

I got mine front plate off craigsplates and its listed as a 7 digit Japanese import plate, They also do 6 & 5 too, With makers mark and bs number as small as possible but legible ;)

Cost me £100 just two days ago, Not even a warning and only ever so slightly smaller than the legal plate size.
