Overheating :(
Iv got a v5 type r and it's over heating. Seems to be loosing water but not 100% sure. The temp needle will rise then go back down? The heaters are blowing hot air as they should. But last night when I pulled up at my house ther was a hissing noise coming from round the radiator area with steam coming from somewere? Any idea? And the header tank was making bubbling noises?

check hoses and radiator, latter notorious for developing pin hole leaks.
|
What the best way of checking? I'm guessing my water needs topping up because it does loose it I think. What are the head gasket symptoms?
|
Check the end tank of the radiator near the top hose as they prone to splitting
|
My expansion chamber is bone dry aswell? The header tank is wet but can't see any good amount of water in ther? And it had a service last week?? If I top up when will I no there is enough in?

sounds like a connector at rad or lower corner of rad that's apparently where they begin to leak. don't try rad weld ! radiators are relatively cheap, and ok to fit. just get it sorted , I put up with topping up for quite a while. cost I think 120 with fitting.

stock rads are rubbish.get a aluminium one.
plus they are a doddle diy fit.:thumb: |
Could it be the thermostat? The temp goes up and down? Is this a symptom of a faulty rad? Cheers guys. Il get a new one sorted. How much and where can I get am aluminium 1 from?

Can u fill up from the expansion tank aswell? And how will I no I've topped up enough?
|
the radiator end tanks are common problem, they split alone the casting lines and are very hard to spot leaking. If the expansion tank on the manifold has hone dry then chances are the cooling system has now got air in it and that air needs removing. You CANNOT bleed or burp this cooling system, it needs to be drained completely, remove the thermostat drain the lot out. refit then remove the hose from the the top expansion tank that goes to the turbo. then fill with a funnel in that hose very slowly with no gulps. when u see fluid appear in the bottom of the expansion tank then u can remove the funnel and refit the hose to the tank. top the expansion tank up till full. start it up with the cap off and let it tick over keeping an eye on the tank and what the fluid does.
If you get loads of bubbles or the fluid comes spewing out then you may have more probs..... |
Nowt wrong with stock rads, my first one lasted eleven years, latest one is now five.
