Air bag control unit delete

Hi,

I was wondering if I can remove this air bag unit below without messing anything else. The car has a Key!s Racing steering wheel, no air bags at all and also an aftermarket ECU in case it has something to do/deal with the OE ECU:

Is there something else dependent on this unit or just air bag control?

Thanks,
Marcio

There's the impact sensors to consider to, these are woven into the loom around the engine bay. If these can be left disconnected I'd remove mine too so I'm interested in the answer:thumb:

So, after taking a look at some Impreza air bag diagrams from different years, none of them share a single thing with the rest of the car loom except the fuse box. I removed the unit + dashboard loom from my car but kept the impact sensors - their connectors are just hanging inside the car.

No issues at all. Then after talking to a friend about it I remembered that we did the same on his car last year and he also hasn't had any issue so far :-) . Next steps when I have some time are to remove the impact sensors and the dashboard air bag light.

I hope this helps, cheers!
Marcio

in the UK, pretty sure this would now be an MOT failure

I was referring to new regs recently regarding original equipment spec that I had read about.

Those regs are about 2-years old; there is an option for the MOT tester to flag a car that is clearly destined for track or competition use so it will pass the MOT with some compromise but remains road legal for driving to the track or between stages:thumb:

Still, never had an issue with m MOT as the tester would take forever if they went through the test line-by-line. Most testers have pet hates (dodg number plates, off colour lights etc) but in the main the want a car that is safe so as long as you've done a proper job removing your airbags most will be fine assuming they even notice:wonder:
