Best choice of oil

I am running about 380bhp in my 2002 STI and im gonna give it a good service so was wondering what is the best choice of oil that you lot use?

make and viscosity of it

stevebt 14 February 2014 10:18 PM

I use Motul 300v 10-60

Hawkeye D 15 February 2014 07:11 AM

Gulf Race Competition for my 2.5 STi PPP.

5-30 I think? From Opie anyways.

Nice good quality affordable engine oil.

Gear Head 15 February 2014 07:46 AM

What oil have you been using? No such thing as 'the best' oil.
Everyone has their favourite though. I have always used Mobil 1. Currently running 5w30 and will switch to a thicker oil in the summer.

The search function does work quite well by the way. :thumb:

generally speaking we dont get cold enough winters to worry about summer & winter oils...............and dont live back in the 60's in terms of current oil technology - even commonly posted information written in the mid/late 90's is out of date IMO unless your talking cheaper basestocks

a std "normal" used new-age will work fine with a good quality 5w40 (10w50, 10w60, 15w50 if track type/extensive mods/etc.)

if you want the 'best' then Millers CFS, their newer CFS NT or Motul 300v are as good as it gets being multi ester based synthetics

Im currently using Millers 10w50 nano, has anybody used Shell Helix Ultra racing 10w60?

gazzawrx 15 February 2014 07:10 PM

Ive just changed from castrol edge 10/40 to millers 10/60 and so far i find the millers to be the better oil. Its only been in a week though so ill see what its like in 6 months time.

bighead 15 February 2014 07:56 PM

motul 300v 15w50 racing oil as...............Alan has mention

the shreksta 15 February 2014 07:58 PM

liqui moly any good

maydew 15 February 2014 08:17 PM

I have always used the motul 300v and last oil change i gave the millers nano a go found the engine sounded louder overall but worse when cold ,put motul back in and its back to how it used to be so my vote is motul 300v 10-40

Used millers cfs 10/60 for ages in my bug sti. Car pushing out 440bhp at 109k miles the engine has never been rebuilt. Just to add I bought the car new in 2002.

How do find it 'the better oil' exactly? :wonder:

I was thinking the same....I use Castrol Edge, same oil RCM use in the Gobstoppers.

Maz 16 February 2014 01:26 PM

I've been using Millers for the best part of a decade. It's not the cheapest but as Alyn says it's good stuff. Triple ester and fully synthetic is the perfect tonic for a turbocharged motor running fairly big power.

daddyd 16 February 2014 03:47 PM

castrol w60

supshon 16 February 2014 04:15 PM

I've been using , Fuchs Titan race pro s 10w 50

because unlike you i work on my own car myself instead of paying other people to do the work. Therefore i get to know the sound of my engine and have learnt how it runs. Castrol edge was descent oil but ive so far found the millers to make my engine run smoother and quieter.

Gava 06 March 2014 05:20 PM

anyone used this?

In fact I always change my own oil.
(only just saw the reply!)

But, it does not make me an expert on which oil works best from the moment I turn the key!

G10 06 March 2014 07:02 PM

Why would a highly tuned Impreza require a higher viscosity over the standard, given that Castrol Edge 0w-40, states it's for performance cars?
Thanks

Gava 06 March 2014 07:16 PM

ive gone with castrol edge 10w/60
