Saab Steering Fault

Strange one for you here, was just about to go to a job interview this afternoon, got in the car and the engine started fine but it wont steer at all (steering lock is off). Any ideas?.
Had a quick look but dressed in my suit and tie i am not getting too dirty. No immediate signs of anything broken but steering will not budge at all.

No idea what to suggest?. Cant move the car as it wont steer and no chance of looking until the weekend really. Engine sounds ok, but a warning does come up saying battery not charging properly, if thats related. Battery is fine though as its only 2 months old.

My car is a 2003 Saab 93 Vector 2.2tid if that helps.

Pretty much on my last straw with the car now as its been nothing but problems since getting it and with a new washing machine needed and roof leaking I am hacked right off.

Hopefully something simple but sure its going to break the bank!!!!!!

Thanks

P.S. New i should have kept the scooby!:(

Your alternator is fecked and not powering your electric power steering pump. The steering isn't locked, it's just REALLY heavy :)

cheers, good news then. been told it could be the aux belt snapping too so will check that out. fingers crossed.

Usually the case. The sure fire sign (without a voltmeter) is the engine speed idling faster than usual.

Then a few miles down the road the dash warning lamps lights up like a tree, and a few miles further the engine dies.

Of course it could be the belt, but it seems the belts last longer than the alternators ( common thing on Vectras too )
