Cpt Jack Sparrow 22 January 2014 09:11 AM

daveyj 22 January 2014 09:39 AM

Would Wolf in Wall Street not be a 2014 release? Or did you see it Stateside?

I'mdue to see it this weekend myself.

f1_fan 22 January 2014 09:50 AM

The Wolf of Wall St opened 27/12/13 in the US so it scrapes in as a 2013 movie, however, as I have not seen it yet I am going to nominate Danny Boyle's Trance as my movie of 2013. It's a move you get more out of watching a second time and bends your mind a little in the process. Great soundtrack too!

The Wolf of Wall Street is fun in place but pretty juvenile and too long.

Probably trying to give vfm given tickets at our cinema are now 9.40 a go! (Not to say our cinema is the reason it's 180mins long btw) I even asked the guy if Anchorman 2 was in 3D? Went totally over his head. It's so expensive going now.

The Trooper 1815 22 January 2014 11:52 AM

10. Compliance.

Wolf of Wall Street has ruined every other film Ive watched since. Nothing is living up to the hype this one did.

Filth was quality, still waiting to see Nebraska and heading to the flicks tonight to watch Railway Man

It was lol funny in places and it had that quick pace like Goodfellas, but it was too long and Belfore is too one dimensional to care anything for, so it's a three hour film about a tosser you don't care what happens to. Also Scorsese's misogenism was very obvious, and you have this whole "we're men together performing our masculinity let's punch that homo" shtick. Meh.

davegtt 22 January 2014 02:54 PM

So, I think the fact that you don't care how he ends up gives it a more relaxing and enjoyable feel to watching it rather than adding tension to what IMO was a film that made me laugh throughout most.

Pain and Gain was funny too

Don't expect too much from the Railway Man.

davegtt 23 January 2014 05:56 PM

Actually quite enjoyed Railway Man. Although the film put Colin Firth about 62/63yr old which I couldnt accept. Other thing is Ive heard of far worse Japanese torture techniques that the "unthinkable" things that happened in the film

Crap year for films TBH, 'Pacific Rim' should have been the best but got monotonous like 'Battleship.'

Roll on the Avatar and Prometheus sequels.... and that other bloody papier-mache Fassbender film Tubby keeps going on about.

RobJenks 24 January 2014 07:49 AM

Pacific Rim was a drag.
Avatar was visually very good - but a sequel ?
Prometheus definitely has potential for a great sequel , providing Ridley Scott is directing again. http://www.prometheus2-movie.com/news/1452

I hope not. I was really disappointed with the "it's not an Alien prequel" Alien prequel. For anyone not familiar with his original it was a good popcorn sci-fi flick but for the proper fan in me it was really disappointing tbh. I've seen it twice since and both times I just thought best kill that franchise there tbh. Michael Fassbender was eerily good but everyone else was struggling with the done-to-death Wayland Corporation story lines.

Agree on Avatar. Two sequels planned too.......so far.

RS_Matt 25 January 2014 07:01 PM

Prometheus' aim was to restore the mystery of the first film, nothing more. TBH it plays like a remake. The original concept of Alien had the Nostromo crew finding the new species in pyramid like domes very much like those on Prometheus. Aliens blew you away at the power of the overwhelming enemy whilst the first left you in awe due thinking what the frig is that elephant in the chair? What the hell was that crashed ship up to?

TBH I'm not sure Scott has the balls anymore or time to do the Alien home world justice. It needs Giger fully back on board for starters and it needs to be done right with a roofless budget. They had to simplify Giger inspired sets on Alien due to a plethora of restrictions and though an exceptional film it should have eclipsed Blade Runner and Star Wars.

Also I think CGI should be kept to the backgrounds and not especially the Aliens. I think the charm (menace) of the 1st two Alien films is the fact the ******* is actually in the room with them. "That can't be?" squirms Tubby. I want Prometheus sequel to be bleak, disturbing and very very weird. The home world has to be littered with Alien v Human warfare and unusual war experiments.

For me it was "Star Trek into Darkness"

Turbohot 25 January 2014 11:25 PM

No one has mentioned Trance. Was it sh1t?
Actually, please don't comment on Trance. I've bought the DVD for a fiver to watch it via my new Blu Ray box. I must watch it. Then I should rather decide myself whether is sh1t or cool. Thanks, and carry on.
