Prosport boost gauge
 

Hi folks :luxhello:

Recently my Prosport electric boost gauge has been playing up. It started with the needle spinning round to max boost and beeping at me on a regular basis to flashing between red and white when it want's to. So I have just removed the heater controls (as the gauge is stuck on dash about heater) to see that one set of wires is uncovered with some bare wires probably touching each other. The thing is I need to rewire it but I don't have a clue how to :wonder:

There are 4 wires coming out of one set from the back of the gauge which was going in to 2 wires in my dash. The dash wires are blue and brown, but I don't know what these are or where they go.

So any help would be greatly appreciated please.

What colour are the wires behind the gauge?
What are they connected to? ie: if the colours were red, white, blue, black, what is red going to, what is blue going to etc. Are any two/more connected together?

Do you have access to either a circuit tester? (Like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-CIRCUI...tem5d414c412e? Or a multimeter?

If so, find out if the wires your gauge is connected to are live a) all the time, b) only when ign is on first click, and/or c) only when engine is running/ign on second click.

The report back.

The wires were just bare and I couldn't make out what was going to where :( I moved them and they fell apart.
Wires I think were red, black, a really short white and I think it was another black.

Sorry the wire colours are red, orange, black and a white one.

I have just finished wiring up a set of three prosport jdm stepper gauges into my blob sti
I still have the wiring diagram from the instructions in my house
I will go have a look for them now mate take a photo and upload it for you :thumb:

right pal here is the instructions mate box number one tells you what the colour wires are for mate :)

also if it is a blob eye you drive I recomend slicing into the wires for the clock as the clock has all the wires you need and it is easy to do as well here is the clock plug diagram for a blob eye that I found online

I followed this for my 2003 impreza sti and everything worked perfect mate
for the clocks on classics if it is one of them you drive them I dont know the wires on them

I didnt bother splicing wires, small fork connector with one end cut off and straight into the connector works well for me.

TBH i much prefer a good strong connection buddy other than jamming fork conectors into the connector block bud :thumb:

Just another thing to put out there is the boost sender that sits in the engine bay, I changed mine last week as the sender got wet, I had to order a water proof one from prosport direct. My gauge was doing the same thing where it was reading a very high boost etc and sometimes moving on its own.. Just so you know bud.

i think the main problem is the wires in the car. As said in 1st post, one is blue and the other is brown but I don't know what the boost gauge wires were connected to and which ones went where :( If they were all connected even.

Says the man who posted a pic of three wires twisted together to make an earth.....:D

I know it was probably temporary, but it struck me as funny...sorry.:)

Then use it to probe wires behind the gauges, under the steering wheel cowl etc, until you find the right wires.

As noted above:
RED: PERMANENT live. (If from battery, via a fuse).
BLACK: Earth.
WHITE: Switched live: only live when IGN is on and engine ready to start, or running.
ORANGE: lighting live: live when lights on.

I used the picture because as it had the block connector clearly out lined in different colours and what each wire was for :)

My splices were very neat and tidy ha ha
