Renting a car in usage

I'm flying into San Francisco and flying out Vegas two weeks later.

Can anyone advise me on what company they have used to pick up from one location and drop off at another.

I used Alamo in Florida but that was to one location so was easy to return.

Search for "one-way rental" (or ask for it at the counter). National and most of the other big chains do it, certainly to/from big cities.

I use Hertz (corporate discount) but pretty much all the big chains will let you do this in the States. Check out their US websites and your online booking should specify pickup and drop off locations as different facilities.

Note : Hertz NeverLost satnav has all of their drop-offs pre-programmed which is a nice little extra when you're in a rush for a flight! :)

Normally when getting a quote online they ask for pick up and drop off locations

I used Hertz, picked it up in Chicago and dropped it off in San Fran', would love to know what happened to it after that :D

Last year I had Texas plates on a car twice - once in South Carolina and once in California. I think Hertz are trying to tell me something... ;)

I hired one from Alamo at San Fran airport, drove it to Yosemite, then Santa Barbara and ended up in Hollywood.

No problems with Alamo at all.
Had the usual upgrade trick played on me, which was fine as I wanted a bigger car than I'd had the previous week in a different state.

You can bid them very low on upgrade cost - think it cost me an extra $5 a day for a 7 seat Dodge Durango, which made for a very spacious and comfortable drive for the four of us.

If you want a sat-nav its best to pre-book from the UK to make sure they have one reserved.
