Bmw 123d - High Mileage

I was originally looking at a bmw 120d but I've just come across a 123d hatch. '57 plate, full service history etc but it's done 91k miles. I know this question gets asked a lot, but should I be put off by the high mileage?

I've had a good read about the timing chain and turbo failures, and it seems to be a lot less common on the 123's, and the fact it's generally a rarer car is swaying me to get it.

Thought please?

91k miles is nothing for a Diesel, proving its been serviced regularly with the proper spec'd oil.

My old E46 320cd did 190k miles - engine was spot on - sadly everything else broke instead

You might want to check and see if it has Swirl Flap issues, I know on the Diesel E46's it was an issue, but I am fairly sure newer ones will be fine, still worth a check on the forums tho

I think they're pretty solid.
Great little cars too!

chain can go anytime on these ....then its a top end rebuild

91k isn't high mileage these days on modern diesels , if its got full service history then should be ok

Yep especially higher mileage ones as its something todo with the pulleys/tensioners etc made of plastic parts so they suffer over time,
Not to mention the other common diesel issues, when they go wrong it's expensive so the money you've saved in fuel has just been blown away when this happens.
(IMO diesels are only worth it new under warranty)

Go for a petrol instead, more reliable and less issues ( 2.0 143hp or 170hp models are decent on fuel)
