Heater Fan/Motor Noise

On a 2005 WRX if I turn the heater control on there is a clicking noise as if the fan/motor is on it's way out (and it gets louder and faster the higher you turn it up). Not sure if you can make the noise out very well on this vid or not:

What exactly is it that needs to be replaced, and where is it located as I thought initially it was just the controls themselves (but it's not!) so there's obviously a motor somewhere I just don't know where!

Cheers!

It will be the fan and motor that needs replaced.

In my Legacy it is behind the glovebox - remove the undertray if it's the same design and you should be able to see it from underneath... I took the whole glovebox off and it looks like this...

The fan motor is inside the white cylinder - there are 3 screws if I recall correctly to take off the lower cover and then I think you can get to the fan inside. Fortunately when mine went ScoobySpares in Fleetwood had a Legacy in that I could rob a part off :D - Thanks Scott :luxhello:

It's worth getting a part in before it fails completely, especially in this cold weather as it is a nightmare when your windscreen mists up - with no blower you can't do anything about it LOL :D Should be plenty about in virtually every scrapped car as hardly anyone needs a replacement interior ventillation fan :thumb:

Good luck!

Excellent and thanks for the pic, I'll see if I can pick one up!

Took mine off yesterday and found a leaf? in it.

As above - could well just be some debris. Not difficult to remove motor and fan. Remove glovebox, then should just be a couple of screws and it'll 'fall' out.

I was going to suggest debris....a mate had some long pine needles in his, it sounded awful.

Thanks, so is it easy enough to get to via the glovebox rather than via the undertray?

Also if you have just had a service and had your pollen filter replaced check that it's in properly mine made that exact sound might be worth a check :)
