What turbo md321t, rcm450 or sc46
Trying to decide on what turbo to get the garage that did my engine recommend the rcm450 but I have been looking at sc46 and md321t
The spec off my car is 2.5 cdb pinned Acl racing bearings RCM rods RCM pistons RCM oil pump RCM 12mm to 14mm head studs This is in a 08 sti hatch So what would you go for and how Thanks alan :thumb: |
Sc46. Had one one my 2.0 before and loved it if a little lagged but should be superb on a 2.5
|
Alan decide how much power you want to run and then pick the smallest quickest spooling turbo out of your choices that can do the job.SJ.

Looking to run about 450bhp and don't won't a lagge turbo don't no much about turbos that's how I am looking for someone to tell me the difference in them all
What I can see is you can pick the md321t up second hand any day off the week and you never see the rcm450 or the sc46 secondhand |
I'd possibly consider an sc42, been hearing some good things about that combo lately, makes close to 450 and spools very well getting you up and going.

MD321V billet works well on the 2.5
Spools well with almost no lag providing you compliment with the right supporting mods, 500 capable / more with meth It will run 460 with little effort |
Sc42 with spash of meth

the MD321V has been recommended to me for my forged/pinned SCB 2.5.
My T spools up quick, full boost by 3700rpm at 1.5bar but is disappointing mid and top-end. The V can come with an alternative 58mm housing which curbs the power a bit but is still an £1800 outlay new. Trev |
Thay all cost about the same now so not to botherd but you can pic up the md321t second hand
|
Got a MD321T for sale £900

What about one of Andy Forrest's offering? His gt480 on a 2.5 made circa 470bhp and a whopping 520lbft. Yours is pinned so should in theory be good for it. Oh and he made that on an OE top mount. Comes in at £1395 which seems cheaper than similar turbos.
Does anyone have any experience of Andy gt480 or gt420? Joe |
Dident no Andy was supplying turbos
|
Andy's been supplying disco potatoes forever
|
On a 2.5 lag on any of the mentioned turbos won't be an issue. The SC42 is a bit small for 450 on V power only, I'd go for an MDX321T or a V if you fancy close to 500. The RCM turbos are very similar to the MD range & worth considering too. SC46 will do the job too, you have plenty of good options for your power level.
|
I'd try an SC46 with the new cast 7cm exhaust housing !

Yeah there a standard position gt30, there a lot cheaper than the md series turbos. You just don't see a lot of people using these. Any reason why?

So there's nothing in it then. I would have thought with Andys being so much cheaper they would be a bit more popular. I mean there nearly £350 cheaper than a md321t
|
As Martin j says , sc46 will work a treat with right mods :thumb: I run an mdx321v on a fully forged 2.5 hawkeye , still on standard top mount and injectors @ 1.4 bar tailing to 1.3 made 428 bhp and 407 torque ! Next mod will be front mount and bigger Injectors to get me some more power :D

http://lateralperformance.co.uk/prod...450bhp__billet As for prices I'm not sure, most of these guys/places have their own hybrid version of the GT 30 so I woulden't be surprised if Andy has tweaked it to his own design. |
So all these turbo will be about the same just some dident tweaks from each suplyer

Have you spoken to John from BRD, his Turbo's are getting rave reviews on SS.net and we have one ourselves for our demo car. Price wise beats most other suppliers and will build you one to specs to suit what you need specifically for you car.

He really knows his stuff with turbo's Ive got a TD05 20G from him if i recall correctly he uses a 7cm housing to keep it fast spooling. His Turbos, are generally the same as all the other brands but cheaper for the same thing.
|
Will speck to him Agen will get him to tell me in dummy terms how they work
