Hi
The last few months i have noticed my P1 has a strange whistling noise.I can here it more when i am in a car park,if i blip the throttle in neutral up to 3,000 rpm and let of, the noise drops of with the fall of the revs.It is the same when i rev it up a bit.Could it be the dump valve?

It's the Turbo....

does it happen more when its damp or rainy day ?... I had a
"whistle" with similar characteristics turned out to be the front alternator bearing... quick
squirt of wd40 sorted it out... Hope yours is this and not the
turbo

I think its something to do with the VF series turbos that are used, cant give you the details but read about it on here ;):D

hi have a the same noise, i noticed it a couple of months ago, i have driven a frieds car (same MY00) and his does not have the noise, it is deff a noise that has developed over time,

If it is the turbo is it something to worry about?
Should i tell the dealer, as im due a service very soon.
I don't think it is the alternator on mine as the noise deff comes from the intercooler / turbo area.

could be the recirculation dump valve sticking but its only normally when its under boost

Yes roller bearing turbo's do whistle, more so when they are cold.

Roller bearing turbo make a loud whistling noise when they are cold, this happens as the dense cold air passes the impella blades, plus roller bearing turbos spin up faster, and take longer to stop.

When you turn the car off you are just hearing typical roller bearing turbo noise, shouldn't be a whistle though more a zzzzzlllll.

You are probably right,it is just a bit hard to explain what it sounds like
