Rare opportunity

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMP...item2587944dd7

Stumbled across this on eBay. Not much opportunities arise to own cars like that. I've never really been a big Tommy Kaira fan although models like this at this point in time, to me, look like a piece of 'Japanese Tuning History'.

Yes, its no 22b or RA-R but it looks exceptionally clean too especially for its age! Just thought I'd share it with the enthusiasts whilst its there to be seen.

tony de wonderful 03 January 2014 03:15 AM

Wouldn't happen to be yours would it?

Dreep 03 January 2014 03:16 AM

No im not boosting my own for sale ad if thats what your thinking.
I have a Type R and im at the opposite end of the country.

nikon-man 03 January 2014 06:54 AM

if as you say it is so rare then why would you sell it on ebay and not put it up for auction with a specialist......

rossyboy 03 January 2014 09:14 AM

ebay is as good a place as any - massive market.

Needs more detailed pictures of the outside of the car and I'd be double checking evidence of the mileage. I'm sure its all kosha, but better safe than sorry.

Its rarer than a 22b that's for sure, though not in the same league for desirability.

nikon-man 03 January 2014 09:28 AM

ebay is as good as anywhere so you say but can you imagine say Nick Mason putting his Ferrari 250 gto up for sale and putting it on ebay I don't think so he would put it with a specialist.

I cant imagine many people spending real serious money through ebay can you...

Know much about selling do you?what it seems to me is that he is getting it advertised in as many places as possible for the viewing public which makes complete sense to me,you did notice that he had a reserve on his car meaning he knows how much he is prepared to sell his car for and if someone meets his reserve price then it sells if not it don't simples, when I sold my last car I had it advertised everywhere, loot, autotrader, pistonheads, ebay etc..and guess what it sold:D.SJ.

328isport 03 January 2014 09:50 AM

Cool, I haven't been able to look at the pics yet but have read the spec, and have a soft spot for anything Tommy Kaira as remember them well from Gran Turismo!! Most definitely one for the Subaru fanatic. Seller sounds good as well, I like the way he's mentioned about the ECU, and as Duncan @ Race Dynamix has looked at the ECU he could probably offer a view on the condition of the car also.

Regards to Ebay, you can't really go wrong, it must be the biggest marketplace in the world, so yes granted if you have millions of pounds worth of Ferrari there would be better options, but otherwise Ebay offers massive exposure.

Eh?

It's a £5k Impreza at best, not a £5m Ferrari.

I do have to laugh in here at how people have over inflated opinions of Imprezas, they are good cars, verry good cars, but a Ferrari they are not yet the way some people talk about them (especially the pseudo special editions ;) ) you would think they were the best and fastest car on the road bar none!

It is rare, very rare infact, but still only worth a few grand. A car like this would not do well in a specialist auction.
Ebay is a great place to advertise as it has such a huge audience. Up until a few years ago it only attracted the lower end of the market but it has grown so much even huge companies are using it now. Yes it still has alot of sh1t on there but anybody looking to sell a vehicle of any price would be mad to not use ebay. The best way to sell a car is to place it in a position where as many people as possible can see it, ebay is a great starting point.

You obviously haven't driven a wrx wagon with PPP and AP 4 pots then fella :lol1:

328isport 03 January 2014 10:42 AM

Guys lets not make this into a normal Scoobynet thread! I believe the guy was only trying to point out that his opinion Ebay may not be the best place to sell a rare car, not that an Impreza is better than a Ferrari.

It will be interesting to see what this car makes, going by the ad you'd have to assume it's been laid up for long periods of time so would surely need properly recommissioning if it was to actually be used, which I'm guessing would cost the thick end of 2k once it's had a full service, the tyres sorted out and a new ECU.

Well he chose a pretty daft comparison, I mean not just any Ferrari, but a 250 GTO :lol1:

Tidgy 03 January 2014 10:51 AM

rare car but i notice no picture of the front end, reason being they are fugly! lol

328isport 03 January 2014 10:53 AM

In terms of value yes, but in terms of rarity maybe not, if the sellers information is correct (that only two others are known in Japan, neither being as they left the factory), then this car maybe one of only a couple if not the only original one in this colour in existence.

It's on my watch list :-) (along with lots of other stuff I can't afford to buy lol)

328isport 03 January 2014 11:15 AM

Tidgy agreed it's no looker from the front lol, if anything that pic is pretty kind to it! However all with hindsight of course, 17" wheels were considered pretty cool in the early 90's so I've no doubt a big bodykit like this would have been a crowd puller back in the day!

stedee 03 January 2014 11:26 AM

Some of the jap specials are so god damn ugly no one wants them. What's that hideous late classic special edition?? Was it a s201. Jeez that was bad

They are all as bad as that, have you seen the TK Blobeye?!

But a storming pair of seats though :)

Scooby Stevo 03 January 2014 11:46 AM

i've spoke to the lad selling over text as he was interested in my sti wagon for sale, seems a nice guy, into his cars - he's also selling a white ra on ebay although under a different name ??

Trinity 03 January 2014 11:53 AM

He mentioned the body kit had been wind tunnelled, I would how a backstreet tuner improved on the billions spent with Subarus R&D with that vertical rear spoiler :)

so I am ignorant but why would you call it rare and then say it is only worth £5

jayallen 03 January 2014 12:20 PM

Shame its missing the matching orange gauges from the center console..

328isport 03 January 2014 12:21 PM

Their Skylines were slightly better though, some actually look pretty good!

Ah I think I might of seen his RA, WRX iirc for about 5.5k? I think someone on here was at the same auction as him when he bought it.

Yea you wouldn't think TK could improve on Subarus R&D, but I think they were quite a big company in their own right with decent resources, they certainly made attempts at manufacturing their own cars (ZZ? was a small two seater along the lines of the Lotus Elise), so I don't doubt it was tested in a wind tunnel, but how well the designs work is another matter!

who said it was worth £5? thats a bit low, even for a classic :lol1:

LuckyWelshchap 03 January 2014 12:44 PM

I find some of the comments in the ad strange.

He won't sell to traders and states it should only go to a good home that will bubblewrap it and keep it for future generations or whatever.

If I bought it I'd be buying to use not park up and every now and then open the doors and look at my 'investment'.

My (cynical) view?
The car's been brought over and he/they realise how much pfaffing about is needed to make it UK roadworthy eg. remapping (which can't be done without changing the ECU by the seems). Once the tank's empty it's out of fuel.

How much is 100+ race fuel?

Tidgy 03 January 2014 12:50 PM

i wonder if pat can get at the ecu?

I think you missed a letter at the end of my valuation ;)

To be of significant value, something needs to be both scarce and desirable. The TK Impreza is not particularly desirable, hence it's not worth £30k like a 22B.

It's not that desirable because its fugly and it doesn't have any rally connotations that I'm aware of.
