Advice, Information or Help

As in the title.......

Last couple of weeks the car has started to "play up" on starting. I've had a new battery so I no it's not that. Car is garaged overnight and it's not like it's been in the cold mornings.

When trying to start, the car won't fire up until I've depressed accelerator a couple of times and eventually it'll start. It's not just in the morning but everytime I go to start the car up same thing happens:wonder:

I know it might be difficult from my description to give me idea's and some have said "plugs or fuel filter" other people I know have said "fuel pump"

Just wondered if any of you guys have had the same problem and what you did to sort the issue out

Car is a MY07 and has been serviced every May:)

I would get it to a specialist for a definitive answer as the guessing game sometimes can backfire if diagnosed wrong, but it does sound like it could be either electrical or fuelling, but my advice get it checked out by a specialist.SJ.

Coolant sensor maybe?.

Cheers SJ

Cheers johned. Never even thought about anything like coolant sensor, although it happens from cold or when it's been run!!!!

Are you blipping the throttle at all before firing up?

Even a light touch can cause flooding.

No alcazar, wasn't at first just tried "firing it up" no throttle and all it did was turn engine over!!
So then used a little bit of throttle and it "fires up" on second turn over of engine.

Not sure thats the best way to explain it but it's the best way I can manage:wonder:

Cheers:thumb:

mine does the same,i now have to prime the pump by leaving the ignition on for 6-7 seconds before starting.i have a fuelab pressure reg going on soon so hopefully that clears it up.

do you get black smoke?

I'll give it a try and see what happens.

As for the "black smoke" I don't get any when running although I've noticed some small, I'm assuming, carbon/soot type deposits on garage rear wall from out of the exhaust!!

mine sometimes puffs out black smoke when started when its warm, not a lot but you can see it

get somebody to start the car with and without priming it while you watch the exhaust

No black smoke fella!!! But I did leave the ignition on for 5-6secs before turning it all the way and fired up straight away without depressing the accelerator.
