water sloshing noise-glove box area
 

i had this before on my blob and it was an air leak so when the new engine was fitted it obviously had a coolant change,that was 6 months ago and everythings been fine but ive just gone and used the car this morning and the whooshing sound has come back

it only happens when you rev the engine

i gave the car a good run and the temp/performance of the car was fine

why and or how has it came back?

Both my imprezas have done this, I not worried about it i the sligtest

maybe a remap will sort it!?

what DV have you got fitted ?

Mine does it absolute PITA, like dashboard squeaks, tried to sort it with a very carefull coolant change to no avail.

heater matrix?

You have trapped air, give the top pipe a good burp.

Had this, When cold, start car with radiator cap off and heater full for ten mins or so.. should get the bubbles out of the cooling system

yeah im gonna do that but how has it happened when for the last 6 months its been fine?

its just a slight air lock, when the car is cold take of the header tank cap and run the engine up to temp, you will see the air lock bubbling out.
dont rev the engine and top up if needed and replace cap.
make sure heater is on hot and heater fan full on so to circulate around matrix.

to be honest i have some samco rad hoses that need fitting as my oem ones are a bit past it so i will get them changed and do a full coolant change ready for winter.

would still like to know why its happened tho

probably not bled properly on engine change, its a pain in the ass to put the coolant in with no air locks.

its never made a noise since changing the engine,ive gotta get my fpr fitted anyway so they can do both at the same time before it goes for a re-spray

Does it make any diffrence were the blower is set i.e. windscreen, or is that irrelevant? As I've tried this and it made no diffrence.

I had this, not saying it's related but a few weeks later my radiator split at the bottom.

New rad, new coolant and all is quiet.

well ive had a full coolant change today and even added some samco hoses aswell and the sound is still there

could there be a problem with my heater matrix?

I've had this too in more than just the Subaru scene. Mitsi did it too. Personally I wouldn't worry about it, but if in doubt take it to a Subaru mech to look at. Heater matrix job is a pita job, dash out ;(

Mine does this, not had the car long but the mechanics reckon it's all sound. I'll update the thread if anything untoward happens.

I have read a post on SN recently where someone else was asking about this "sloshing" noise behind the dash and they had taken their car to a Subaru specialist who said it was the head gasket?

My car does this occasionally when it's stone cold and I haven't driven it for a few weeks and I'm sure it ain't the head gasket because it happens so infrequently. (But I still sat and thought, OH BOLLOCKS could it be?)

Sometimes it just does your head in looking for answers for problems that actually only really exist on these forums and in the minds of these so called "experts"!

Is this not fixed yet? I've had my rad out, drained all coolant, put a new timing belt on and refitted and filled the whole cooling system this morning. Surely you've bled your cooling system by now?

What it must be like to have a life without "other" commitments in life, I envy you:thumb:

I'd best go any tidy the house, make the kids lunch, take them park, play games, empty dish washer and washing machine, play with kids more whilst working from home, prep dinner, and possible go to the garage to make sure my car is still sat in there comfortable and warm, whilst ensuring the kids are ok (young ens) and doing more work at home.

its a fecking air lock ffs, it needs bleeding PROPERLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't think there was a proper way to bleed the system on an impreza?

when i check the levels from cold ie 1st thing in the morning the over-flow bottle has around 1-2 inches in it,the rad is full to the top and the header tank is just below the bottom of the neck line-is this correct?

is it worth starting the car with the header tank cap off with the heaters on full until the level rises to the top?

Having heaters on doesn't make a jot of difference. It's a full flow matrix it doesn't require heaters blowing. If anything not having the heaters blowing will make engine heat up quickest as you are not transferring as much heat with fans. Run with expansion cap off and allow fan to kick in a couple of times. Worth squeezing the matrix input and output pipes to "encourage" any trapped air.

A full time job and a four month old baby keep me busy enough but I still found an hour to do a timing belt and coolant change on the impreza!

i started the car from cold today with the header tank cap off-heaters were set to hot and i left it until the water rose to the top of the header tank,no air bubbles came out so i put the cap back on and i still have the same problem :cry:

should i try burping the rad hoses with the header tank cap off? with the engine running or not?
