Bring on the noise

Yesterday I had a few hours spare whilst the girls went shopping so decided to do some fettling on the scoob. Yesterday was all about "bringing on the noise !!! " . Far too quiet on the standard rusty peashooter exhaust so went into the garage and unwrapped a few goodies.

First up was the old one

And what it looked like on

.

Managed to get a nice Blitz Nur Spec unit all delivered well wrapped up But it needed a clean so out came the tools and gave it the once over.

Looks like a dead boy when it arrived !

Some liberal metal cleaning compound, flappy sanding wheels and elbow grease

If I had more time I would have really gone to town but quite pleased with the results

Jacked up the car and onto axle stands but boy do I wish for a ramp, absolute ******* of a job trying to get the rusty bolts out with so little room. Then I found out the heat shield had come off as all the bolts had worn through so that got binned and on went the new one.
Bolts greased up for easier removal if needed and went for a blast to seal the gasket. Sorted. :thumb:

A video of startup on the standard exhaust. Ignore the vapour and water, it was a cold start

And what it sounds like on the Nur Spec

:D:thumb:

It will sound a lot better when I do the centre section and down pipe
Cleaned up the centre section ready to go but not fitting it just yet as the bolts will no doubt be rusted and knackered, I have ordered some new bolts with springs ready for that job.

Wait until the centre section and down pipe go in. THEN it will sound like yours :loll:

From the MOT guy, to the guy from the local shop to our neighbours all say it is too quiet and does not 'sound like a scoob'

Well soon it will :D

imprezaworks 15 December 2013 06:46 PM

Sounds awesome

Norman Dog 15 December 2013 07:20 PM

Absolutely love the sound, could imagine it to be a bit tiring on a long drive however. :)

They aren't too bad when you're on a run, to be honest.

Been all over in mine with the bung out, even down to Swissy's twice, and after a few motorway miles you don't notice it.

mickywrx 15 December 2013 07:30 PM

It's a lot quieter with the bung in obviously, but, it sounds crap. :D

SwissTony 15 December 2013 08:02 PM

On my old scoob I had a Ninja II and that was loud but not too boomy but on full chat it was awesome :)

This was badly needed as the standard peashooter was just too quiet. I do the odd run in it to London and back so will see what it is like as it is. If after fitting the centre and down pipe and I find it too noisy (some chance ) then I could only fit a bung if needed.

Will fit and see :thumb:

Nur Spec full chat launch, dumped the clutch at about 6K RPM. :D

SwissTony 15 December 2013 08:17 PM

It's a friends old car Dan, raced him 8 or 10 times that day. I won every time. :)

Said goodbye to a, I think it was a 2.35L by then, Blob STI. Steve's had a alot more power than mine also, so it doesn't matter really what engine was in. :D

mickywrx 15 December 2013 08:30 PM

And it's hard to tell, but, I just beat Steve across the line. :D

It was all those fire extinguishers that steve carried with him that slowed him down :)

imprezaworks 15 December 2013 08:36 PM

Ah right. Car looks well mate :)

That sounds mint considering you haven't put the centre and down on yet, that vid is just just box fitted onto standard parts ?

Thanks for that That video is just that . Backbox fitted into standard cat centre section and standard downpipe Apologies for the vertical video btw , I had it propped up against a brick and it was too low and awkward to do a horizontal shot but you get the idea :)

Scary how time flies

thenewgalaxy 15 December 2013 10:32 PM

If you keep them below 2800rpm-ish they are actually not too heavy on the ears, even on a long journey.

Matt23 15 December 2013 10:34 PM

I so need to get 1 of these exhausts for mine next year, sounds great mate.

Mine's quieter at 90 mph than it is at 70 mph. :freak3:
