Does your iPhone 5/5s have this fault?

My g/f had the same fault with her iPhone 5, four times.

Each time it was replaced under warranty with a refurbished phone until the last one when we demanded a brand new phone so we could sell it and buy the iPhone 5S.

Anyway, it seems the iPhone 5S has the same fault and we'ev been batting emails and phone calls backwards and forwards to customer service and tech support for nearly a month.

Their latest phone call said they have been able to replicate the fault and that it is a software issue. I'm not convinced and I think it's a hardware fault because it happened on her iPhone 5 before iOS7 was released.

So, I wondered if any of you guys could replicate the same fault in your iPhone 5 or 5S.

1. Turn off wifi or be out of range of wifi.

2. Be out of range of 3G.

3. Send an email via the phone.

4. Take a couple of close up photos using your flash.

Does this happen to yours...

Seems like you've found a bug and wangled four new phones because of it, well done.

Does it happen if you turn on Airplane mode? I'm not often out of 3G range.

I followed your steps and took 7 photos of close up objects. 2 out of the 7 photos had some lines down them but not as many lines as your pictures. Mine had 4 lines on the right hand half. Also, the 2 photo's that had those lines down both had my wooden pine desk in the background like yours.

Never affected my experience with the iPhone though.

Maybe I'll try this in an apple shop to blah myself a new phone :lol1:

Doesn't happen in airplane mode which leads me to think it's interference from the 2G signal of the camera sensor or something similar.

Thanks. We took screenshots of the offending pictures and had the phone swapped 4 times without a fight.

Not that this helps in getting a working phone as I suspect they ALL have this fault.

if you're in a **** signal area, it will work its bollocks off trying to get 3g etc, battery will drain much quicker than normal, repeat your test with it on charge just for laughs.

go it to cellular settings and disable cellular data AS A separate test rather than enabling airplane mode.

We're in Cornwall, the whole county has cr4p signal lol

I've had iPhone 5 for over a year, I think. I've had several lines-in-pictures issue on 3 occasions, but it corrected itself in an hour or so.

It's only one swipe and one click to turn on Airplane mode. This may be the best phone replacement bug ever.

Can't get my 5s to do that at all, done what you said but pictures come out perfect every time.

No, we're finished with the tech guys but still waiting for CS to call back to discuss what we can do now.

Guess it's either live with it or get a refund and buy something else. Doubt we'll be offered any kind of gesture even though we've had to travel backwards and forwards to the Apple store (2hr round trip) 4 times.

Has anyone ever actually been happy with Apple customer service? I've struggled to find the genius in the Genius Bar. Puts me off buying Apple stuff tbh.

LSherratt 05 December 2013 09:05 PM

Jack and I love apple products :D

A&E 05 December 2013 09:09 PM

I love Apple products too. They are beautifully made, and everything just works as it should.

Problem is when something doesn't work then you have to try to book an appointment, travel however many miles to the iStore, queue for the appointment which will be a minimum of 60 minutes late, and don't for one minute think they'll take a look at your other Apple item that wasn't booked for the appointment. You have to repeat the frustration for that one. :nono:

dpb 05 December 2013 09:17 PM

Hey, but at least they have shops on the high street, right

:lol1:

I'm not into Apple at all but to be fair to them, the customer service has been great.

I have never had to bother any Apple store, although some of my friends keep moidering Apple store at Trafford Centre every time they corrupt the item with their own stupidity. One of them even lost her car keys at Trafford Centre car park FFS! I did run to the Carphone Warehouse a couple of times to get help with my Apple products, as I bought them there. It takes me 30 miles round trip to get to them, a pound to park, and ten minutes to wait for their sales person's attention. That 19 yr. old clever kid fiddles with my phone for 2 minutes and magically fixes it for no money at all. Very kind service for the ignorant. I'm obliged.

My iPhone 5s was delivered on the stated day this week. I couldn't track it for some reason. Called Apple, was assigned a lovely personal tracking assistant and given £60 for my troubles. I'm very happy with Customer Service.

And the phone is astonishing, coming from a 4s.

Whereas with your Android/Windows device?????? Oh yes, you're f**ked! :lol1:

dpb 06 December 2013 10:24 AM

I think you're worth more than 60 quid a year to them jack

Just look at your input here alone

You was robbed

JackClark 06 December 2013 10:28 AM

I got a better deal on the 4s, much better, still not complaining due to that. I suppose I could have pushed for more, but was taken aback by the initial unexpected offer.

RA Dunk 06 December 2013 10:40 AM

I've never had a problem with customer service either, actually they are one of the plus points of owning an Apple product TBH.
