Need advice installing custom relay box in classic

Lo folks

Made myself a custom wiring loom for my P1 HID driving lights but needing a good location to install it

Best I have come up with is where the original horn sits, just between the passenger side headlight and the battery

I plan to remove the horn bracket and attach some bolts somehow to create four standoffs? For the relay box to sit on

This is the relay box - http://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/4-way-...al-relays.html

I want it to sit approx an inch above the fixing place so the cables won't be sat in water if you understand me?

So basically after ideas on how to fix the relay box? Considered drilling through and either using coach bolts, or normal bolts? And then maybe three nuts per bolt to create a stand off for the box to sit on?

Anyway I'm rambling, pretty sure there's a simple solution for this that I am missing?

Thanks folks

Why do you want four relays for your lights?

You can see my setup here:

Four relays:
Horn compressor,
HID driving lights
Relay to use OE foglight wiring to switch the above
Morette inners, (no longer used).

Fusebox for these.

Earthing point for all the extras.

The whole lot is sat on an alloy plate bolted to the top of the battery clamps, spaced from the battery top by shaped bits of epoxy resin, (Miliput).

All relays have been sealed against water ingress with Araldite.
All connectors are soldered and plastic covered.

The horns and compressor have now been moved from there. And yes, that's a genuine HID projector in that light unit;)

One Relay is for the switching using the fog light switch and the main beam
Two relays, one for each ballast
Fourth Relay is for my Hella Horns

I'll take a picture of the loom tonight for you

I actually pmd you a while back Jeff if you remember, with a link to said loom, morimoto h7 kit

Looks good.

I see now why you need four relays.
What about a fusebox?

winston69 27 November 2013 08:43 PM

What would I need a fuse box for?

One Relay is for the switching using the fog light switch and the main beam
Two relays, one for each ballast
Fourth Relay is for my Hella Horns
I'm assuming that the ballast relays are fed from the battery, via the two relays, and the horn likewise?

So you really should protect the feed by inserting a fuse, either before, or after the relay, preferably before, in the wire coming FROM the battery, since, if any of the lives somehow go to earth, (come adrift, chafe, etc etc), it will cause a fire under the bonnet.
Plus, the horn or ballasts could go US and the same might happen.

If the relays/horn aren't fed from the battery, ignore this advice.

There's a fuse wired into the loom if you look carefully
The Hella Horns are wired into the relay using the existing horn wiring so will be fused also

Created some standoffs using some stainless bolts and flanged nuts
Will be sticking it in place using some J B Kwik weld

Yes, I see the fuse now.
It appears to feed all three circuits?

If so, and it "blows" for some reason, you will be without the other things.
I prefer separate fuses one for each circuit.

winston69 29 November 2013 07:54 PM

It feeds the two ballast relays, the third one pictured there is just a switching Relay. Two feeds from main beam and fog lights, a ground and the output, which feeds the switch on the two ballast relays. If that makes sense?

alcazar 29 November 2013 09:10 PM

Yes, it does. What fuses the horn then?

winston69 29 November 2013 09:15 PM

Not wired it in yet but I'm sure it's currently just using the original horn wiring
If so I'll just include another in line fuse holder
