WR1 to 350bhp advice
As the title says I'm after a bit of advice. I've just bought a WR1, and although at the moment I'm more than happy with the performance I know 6 months down the line I'll probably be looking to freshen it up. And in the interest of not being embarrassed by a 300 bhp vxr or focus st I reckon around the 350bhp mark should do it.
So would a walbro 255 or similar, a cosworth filter and a jolly green remap make this ballpark? I'd be buying bits over the next few months so it won't be one big layout. I also need two tyres and 6 months tax, so don't be too ambitious with me. |
You might also want to consider cat replacement / sports cat down pipe.
The k&n filter is the most preferred and popular option. Also consider going for a rcm fuel pump, it's not much more and comes with no complaints. |
Thanks mate. I'm not against a decat but the wr1 comes with a prodrive sports cat anyway, so thought I might be able to hold off. Mainly just want to know if that would make 350bhp possible or would there be other bits I'd need to add.

In situations like this the best person to speak to would be your mapper jgm.
He'll know which things are first to hold your car from pushing it any further whether it be the injectors, turbo, fuel pump etc. Don't get too obsessed with the figures. As said a million times before, bhp is often just pub talk and p1ss1ng contests. |
Re-map of std car should see 340 ish (std turbo VF35?).

VF43 on a Wr1 is it not ??

UK bugeye sti has a vf34 as standard, and UK Blobeye (WR1 incl) has the vf35.
Both are well capable of reaching 350bhp with supporting mods and a remap, but the vf34 is regarded as more reliable due to the bearing design. For info, the vf43 was fitted to the UK hawkeye 2.5ltr sti versions. No UK sti versions were standard with a twin scroll setup ;). |

vf35 can hit 350 bhp no problem.
mine has been on 2 dynos in the last year. one read 359.2 bhp and the other 349.7 bhp i have the following: fully decat exhaust walboro 255 NGK 7b spark plugs Sard FPR 3 port boost solenoid K&N in wing induction ECUtek mapped by andy forrest to 1.5bar and 0.8 bar (switchable map) |

I don't mind a full decat, but I'd like to keep the prodrive back box. It is my daily after all. Would going 3" to 2.5" restrict it at all? I'm not just chasing the numbers, but I can imagine that 350/350 with a nice smooth curve and the turbo spooling a little earlier would make a great car even better. If I could get that for around a grand or so, spread out over a few months, I'd be a very happy camper. Thanks for your help guys.

I would go with Revolution exhaust,this exhaust is not very loud and its highly recommended by many people 3" is good way to go if you have further plan to increase bhp beyond 350bhp. 2.5" and 3" debate is still here and will be,some guys has run their 2.5" beyond 400bhp without the issue,but some struggled in low 300bhp,really depends VF35 should make 330-350bhp,but sometimes will not make those figures,why,I'm not 100% sure there But sometimes will make beyond those figures You don't need to spend £1000 for making 350bhp,I would say £350 for exhaust and maybe few bits plus mapping(EcuTek cost £550 plus VAT and Open Source cost from £299 up to £350 for Carberry ROM) Jura |

You just want to be able to keep up with me paul! Your need a decent stainless 3" system ideally, definitely a map and uprated fuel pump, possably change the injectors and panel filter or fit a cone. You need a bigger can hanging out the back of that beast too!
