bop's diy forged build.
hi guys..
iv decided to have a go at a forge build on a spare cdb iv had sat in my garage for a couple of months. the plan is to use the crank and block if both are ok and build it back up with new bolts,rods,pistons,seals,etc....here go's ! on splitting the block most of the mains were in ok condition apart from the centre which is the thrust bearing im lead to believe which has clearly worn through to the copper and the main bearing closest to the oil pump also has worn through to the copper only on the passanger side of the block.... shouldn't these bearings wear evenly if the block has been built correctly ? is it normal for the thrust bearing to wear faster than the others ? http://i1364.photobucket.com/albums/...psd977a09c.jpg http://i1364.photobucket.com/albums/...psf59d6571.jpg any input at this stage would be massively appreciated im going to remove the rods off the crank and will be back with another update soon.......;) |
rods removed and crank measured.
i have now removed the rods from the crank and measured the journals and iv been get readings of 60.00mm - 59.99mm for the main journals and and a reading of 52.00mm - 51.99mm for the big end journals now i know this is within the tolerances stated by subaru but im still hesitant from reading all the horror stories from people re-using or grinding cranks heres a pic of me measureing the centre thrust bearing journal which shown the most wear...:thumb:

right need some input from you guys now......
do i go for the rear thrust conversion an v9 sti crank or buy a new middle thrust and leave it as it is....... i would also like recommendations for good machinists in the north of england preferably lancashire to do the work on my block.... |
Why not go for a 79mm crank and go 2.1?
|
i have been looking into it toyney and this seems pretty reasonably priced......http://www.6starspeed.com/suwrxejpe2st.html
|
Go for it mate. The .1 makes a nice difference to the torque. Just had an engine tuner 2.1 built myself and loving it
