1999 Ver6 White STI - blown engine

I still don't know whether I'm doing the right thing, but here goes...

I went from doing about 6000rpm in 2nd gear and then instead of engaging 3rd, I engaged 1st... it drove ok for a brief time after, but soon gave up as I reckon the lifters LIFTED a bit too high...

The engine had only 60k on it with full service history, EVEN Japanese service history, not to mention a folder full of receipts etc... *sigh*

Interior is immaculate and body work not a scratch or dent, apart from N/S rear arch took a knock. All the black and other sh!t on the car you see is vinyl so will come off easily, including the film on the front lights.

Anyway I'm seeing if anyone wants it as is before I break it in the spring - a new block dropped in which would set you back about £1000 and you have a VERY rapid machine with the right gearbox and the right brakes - 380bhp/350lbs.

I've had this car for about 5yrs and spent a fortune on it... I'm in no rush to sell it... just seeing what I could get as is. If not I'll make more breaking... or maybe I'll change my mind and give it new life with a new block...

Rbon91 13 November 2013 04:32 PM

Very nice.. Unfortunately dont think its worth 6k as it is mate.. be shqme to break such a nice car tho

sonic93 13 November 2013 04:49 PM

I got a Sti 3 engine here ;) keep her man you gotta

alex_00s 13 November 2013 07:35 PM

yeah I don't think its worth £6k as it is either... but I know I could definitely get that and possibly more if I break it...

I'm just testing the water... you can always come down on price, never up.

The price of an engine plus the mission fitting it... if I then sold after that I'd never recoop the money laid out for the engine etc so its swings and round abouts, might as well get rid now.

Also I'd need a Ver6 engine - like for like if I was gonna do a transplant, cheers anyway mate :thumb:

It may still happen lets see what comes out of this.

alex_00s 13 November 2013 07:38 PM

PS: if anyone out there wants to do the engine transplant supply/fit for me, I'm open to offers... but I'm lookin for a person that'd do it out of a labour of love rather than a big money earner...

...I'd be paying obviously lol

adz556 13 November 2013 08:57 PM

Where you based mate?

mantazini 13 November 2013 09:08 PM

Don't want to disappoint you buddy .... but I doubt i'd get that amount for my whip in a current running state and very similar spec if not more with billet 20G , ast's quick rack , AP's etc etc....

donny andi 13 November 2013 09:42 PM

Feel for you fella , did the same years ago but I went from 3rd to 1st thinking I was going 5th to 3rd....:brickwall
Ba5tard engaged 1st and the gearbox took a good dump across the road :(

If ya gonna do it do it right :lol1:
Best of luck whichever way you go :thumb:

just get an engine mate, youre never going to recoup the money spent anyway. get a newage sti bottom end and some v6 heads , ive seen some lately for cheap.

fitting an engine on these is a piece of pi55.

nice car btw. any front on pics. i like the black on white combo similar to what ive done in the past. not many do it right like you have

bradm27scooby 14 November 2013 12:42 AM

get an engine for it, me and my mate would be willing to travel down for the day to fit it for you mate.

bradm27scooby 14 November 2013 12:54 AM

a.s.b breakers got one in traders breaking section for £650 delivered

Ciaran 14 November 2013 06:48 AM

I am afraid that would not be worth £6k if it worked never mind needing an engine.

domino46 14 November 2013 07:41 AM

I have a newage sti bottom end that could possibly be sold if needed ? Pm me if required

Gear Head 14 November 2013 10:22 AM

I know you say it is mint apart from the arch knock, but that looks like it needs a quite a bit of time in the bodyshop to fix! And with a blown engine, I doubt you will see £3.5k to be honest mate.

You would be better of breaking it or fitted a 2nd hand engine. I forged engine will be around £4k, so do you really think your car is worth £10k?

Stoff1 14 November 2013 10:29 AM

If you do decide to break I would be interested in the brakes.

joz8968 14 November 2013 10:30 AM

Stick a mid-miles Bug or Blob STi bottom end in and forget about originality - after all the car's modded anyway.
Remap and you'll be back to where you were - with a strong engine to boot.

Oh, and forget rifle-bolt gearchanges, in future. ;)

alex_00s 14 November 2013 01:18 PM

Like I said I'm just testing the water... Its hard to gauge what its worth. I know how much I've spent on it and what it owes me and I know what ppl are paying for runners of a silimlar spec - I also have a rough idea of what I'd get if I break it.

Considering all of that I'm trying to figure out whats worth taking for it as is. Its only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it so I'm advertising it here for a price I want, then I will accept genuine offers for what ppl are prepared to pay for it. Thats how it works :)

I appreciate all your comments as well, they all help

joz8968 14 November 2013 02:08 PM

Prior to the failure you loved her, right? Your baby... Pride and joy and all that? ;)

Then do the honourable thing and mend her. Nurse her back to health. Then the relationship can start afresh, all over again. :)

Go on, you know it makes sense.

LUCKO 14 November 2013 11:00 PM

im in shock i thought the advert date was circa 2003/4 but its not

£5995 in 2013 and it doesnt run, sorry dude aint happening just spend the ££ get her fixed you obviously dont want to sell or you wouldnt use the term 'testing the water' pfff thats what people say when they want to keep

;)

alex_00s 21 November 2013 04:36 PM

As much as I'd like to keep it... as I do love it to bits... I gotta stop ploughing money in to it at some point and this pretty much is that point.

I was testing the water to see if I could get any offers close to a price I'd get from breaking and selling in parts.

As I havnt achieved that I will be breaking it in the spring :(
