JAMES BUSHELL 19 January 2000 03:10 PM

Can you help?

I now need new tyres and have decided to go for the Toyo T1-S.

I have been quoted £65 + VAT per tyre, is this a good price or does anyone know anywhere cheaper (this includes fitting, etc!). Size 205/50 x 16 (Z rated)

Either in the Sidcup (S/E area), or Ilford (East London area).

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

James

I assume these are 16s, if so then the price is good. I have to admit that I am dissapointed with these tyres having the 17s on my car, understeering far too soon in the dry does not make me happy.

make sure there isnt an alternative that you would prefer, and why not try posting in the wheels and tyres section.

JAMES BUSHELL 19 January 2000 03:19 PM

Thanks!

I currently use Pireili P5000 (or something like that), the understeer is bad with these, and i wouldn't have thought it could be any worse? these are the tyres it came over from Japan with!

Sheridan 19 January 2000 04:11 PM

Are they the P5000 DRAGO, we fit those to my wife's Ford Probe and they moved the handling ability of that car up several leagues truly incredible on that one compared to the original Bridgestones. But I was not brave enough to put them on the Scooby because I could not find any reference to them, so I fitted T1S's last week Paying 100 inc each for them in Berkshire so I was not pleased when I saw this post.

James, what dealer gave you that price, just out of interest!

Thanks Dan

James,

Where did you get that good price? Please could you let me know soon, as I may be able to get my supplier to price match them (saturday)! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Please email me directly, if your coy! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Thanks,

Moray

PS. I like the T1S better than any of the other 5 makes I've had on my Imprezas.

I don't suffer any major understeer problems on mine, especially not in the dry. Maybe Adam M has a geometry problem? Maybe it's just the way we drive 'em! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Just had a similar thread on the IWOC. I switched from S02's (17") to T1s, and they are appauling. I've had 2 sets of S02's, and whilst the wear rate is pretty low, handling is fantastic. I didn't realise just HOW fantastic, until I changed.

It's funny how charcteristics of tyres seem to vary dramatically through the sizes.

I put Toyos on my 16" wheels before Christmas, and have been very impressed. I've had SO2's before, and I can see little difference. Excellent turn in, dry grip, wet grip etc.... However I have seen a few rather critical comments (as above) when they're fitted to 17's.

With all the roundabouts in Milton Keynes, you notice poor turn in or understeer very quickly, but my TS-1's are super.

Regarding the price James, what do you mean CHEAPER! What do you want, Blood?

Cheers M'dears

Josh

I have to agree with Moray.
I had 15" wheels with potenza(?) tyres, ,then I went to 17" with Toyo T1`s and the difference was amazing. I have no problems with understeer. Unless it`s too fast http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
Wet & dry grip is very good.
Check your geom. settings. Well worth the money.

Well, it's worthy a try?

Must have been lucky then as this was the first price I got.

Danny Fisher 19 January 2000 05:08 PM

James, where di you get this price from?

I've had Toyo T1-Plus on 15" Wheels and T1-S on 16" wheels(on my old MY97 turbo).

Both tyres used for fast road and lots of track work. No problems at all....handling seemed very good (I can only compare to std Pontenza RE70 or whatever they are called as standard) The tyres stood up extremely well to lots of track abuse.

I did find they often broke away a little early in the damp.

I'm now running T1-S on 17" wheels on my MY2000 car (another Turbo) and they seem fine...probably a little too soon to tell because I haven't really pushed the car as its just run in...I'll report back after donington in march and say how the 17"s are compared to the others.

Cheers

Ian.

Well, I guess it must be me then. But if any of you 17" T1S fans want to make me a sensible offer on my tyres (2kmls approx) I'd be more than willing to part with them. You might have to twist my arm though;NOT.

Mark.

James
Before I had my T1-s fitted I had my Geometry checked and set up, this along with the tyres made a big difference. In the wet they are better than any of my previous tyres and hold ther own in the dry. I have heard that for some reason they dont seem as good on 17 inch rims and he prefered the SO-2's. Mine cost £68+ vat each and am chuffed to bits with them.

I had 16" T1-S's fitted all round on my TypeR and the improvement over the RE010 standard tyres is amazing.

The Type R has been criticised for its dodgy handling, but my car is now transformed, with very sharp turn-in and lots of feel from all corners when the grip turns to slip. This improvement took about 500 miles from fitting.

For this model, I can recommend the Toyos. Cost fitted: £95 each. I know I could get cheaper, but at least they didn't mark my alloys!

Milky 20 January 2000 05:13 PM

I've just fitted 16" T1-S's to my MY96, and I must say the grip is excellent over the RE-10's on before. The turn is a lot better too.

But by the sounds of it I paid over the odds, at £100 each fitted inc VAT.

No complaints yet...

Darren.

Hi all.

Just to put you out of your missery, when i ordered them they told me there was a problem with the price!

They had actually got it wrong and they were £80 per tyre + VAT!

Oh Well - Not so good after all

James
