Couple of questions for blob eye STI owners

looking to get back into subaru ownership and got a few questions for you. Currently got a mk4 mondeo which takes all 3 child's seats in the back comfortably. What I would like to know is how much usable room there is in the back from door card to door card. If someone could measure what room there is that would be great. The second question is one that your probably sick to death of! Roughly what milage are you getting to a tank full? last question. Anything specific to look out for when looking to buy one.
Cheers

struggle with three seats in the back as there are only 2 shoulder belts and middle is a lap one, it does have isofix holes though x2.

they are sh1t on fuel no other way to describe it, the fact you asked must mean it bothers you so avoid an sti impreza.

220 miles to a tank if your lucky around town even worse.

pcressie 11 November 2013 09:21 PM

I only do roughly 150 miles a week which the mondeo does using £20-25, so if that amount doubles its not too drastic. I thought they had 3x3 point belts :wonder:

220 is what I get too, although ive had 300 on the motorway, on country roads dont even look at your fuel guage!

I have two booster seats and a 12 yr old that get in to the back of our classic not loads of room but they love the car so they dont mind it. I managed to get 260 miles out of a tank on holiday in the summer was well shocked but that was on v power when filled up with tesco managed just 221 miles! Anyone else noticed tesco doesn't go as far? A bloke in work has with his diesel. Another thing to remember the fuel tank is probably smaller than the mondeo guessing it will depend on the shape impreza.

I defo wouldn't want to put 3 seats in the back. I have 3 girls, one that requires a seat, one a booster and the other makes me feel old! They fit fine tho without a problem.

Don't ask about fuel, though mine is far from standard. I think if I worked it out It would be up for sale!!!

my blob has 3 x 3 point rear belts and 2 x iso points

have you considered a wrx?
i think the kids will prefer the softer suspension
i get 240 + miles out of a tank in my wrx, i get 35mpg on a run. not bad for 330bhp

same here get about 180-220 to a tank.. running 440bhp.
was getting 3mpg when did track day at donnington :)

Another option would be to keep the mongdeo, and buy a classic turbo 2000 in Mica blue for weekend fun. I had one years ago and loved it. I know they are not the fastest Scooby, but it was a car that just seemed to do everything right. I Remember when I was looking to buy my last classic there was 100's for sale, now there seems to be naff all decent ones. My only worry with doing this, is that it might just end up never being used. where as if I only had the blob eye it would have to get used. Decisions, decisions

My Widetrack blob gets about 220 about town and dual carriageway stuff, had 280 on a straight m6 run.

Christ, if i bimble around im getting close to and sometimes 300 miles in mine. 353 bhp.

I'll probably get slated as usual.:Whatever_

But the Blob WRX Wagon PPP has similar power to the standard STI, 3 X shoulder seat belts, nicer suspension is better on fuel under normal driving and a dammed sight more practical for getting all the kid / everyday life related stuff in the back, Forester STI is also worth a look.

With a few small mods has reasonable handling, will run 330bhp without issue, also half the price of an STI. :king:

I was quite surprised out how small the back of my 05 WRX is. And that is compared to a Mark 1 Ford Focus 5 dr hatch! :wonder:

So compared to your Mondy, a Blob STI is going to feel tiny. I seriosuly doubt that there is going to be enough room for 3 full size car seats. Worth seeing if there is someone local to you with a newage blob so you can test it out. :thumb:

As for fuel consumption - Don't expect anything more than 21/22mpg. Anything above will just be a bonus. Ok, they can do 30mpg on the motorway if you cruise at 60mph, but when are you going to do that?? :thumb:

Blob wagon as a family car has to be a serious contender IMO. I used to have a bug wagon for a while, and compared to then saloon it used practical, yet still with exactly the same pace and handling.

The bug wagon looks terrible, but the blob isn't too bad looks wise either :)

That sounds promising. Starting to think more along the lines of keeping the Mondeo and buying a classic for weekend's, thats if I can find a nice clean Mica blue turbo 2000. The thought of doing 180-200 too £75 of fuel is putting me off an sti as a daily.

ditchmyster 12 November 2013 05:55 PM

WRX will do 260 to a tank mixed driving week in week out.

Maybe think about the overall cost of a second car, tax, insurance, mot, servicing, plus purchase price, which is why I bought the blob wagon and locked the Type R in the garage for a few years until i'm ready to do it justice and a few less miles.

forgedmarco 12 November 2013 06:27 PM

I get about 270 miles to about £55 in my blob wrx running about 280bhp :)
