Is it easy enough to 'modify' the pads to fit my d2 calipers as they seem to thick?

Talk to Alyn of ASPERFORMANCE he modified a set for my AP calipers.SJ.

Are pf pads available for d2's?
Are they similar fitting to the ap's?

The pads really need surface grinding to fit properly

And how easy is that to do? I was hoping out with the old and in with the new, bit dissapointed really.

I had to grind them down. About 1mm, s..t work, but it works and was worth it ;)

I might be thick here when I ask but to grind the pad down, I basically put the pad face down on a flat surface and take 1mm off the back of the pad?

If you grind the pad down it will take forever to bed them in again , find an engineering shop and ask them to surface grind them for you , only cost about £30 , that way they will be completely flat and straight , if you do it with a grinder there will be high and low spots all over them

I was going to use sandpaper or similar. I didn't factor in paying an additional £30 to get them to fit. And when you say bed them in again? There not even fitted mate

I mean if you grind them by hand they will not be completely flat , so will be flat after the bedding in process , which will take forever to do as the discs rubbing them will flatten them off.

You can do it with emery cloth or sand paper , but it will take ages to do , but it will be free.

I wanted brake pads to fit, not have to spend an eternity grinding them down or paying someone £xyz to do it for me.

Mate if you are going to get them to fit I would definitely get them machined and done properly by someone that knows what they are doing,so that the pad compound is level with the disc face and not have different heights that will give uneven pad connection to the disc,Ian how much do you charge for the service?.SJ.

At the time I wasn't aware they needed 'modyfing' to fit, I knew the clearance on the disc wouldn't be quite as good which I was happy enough with as others have used then and raved about them. I didn't factor in the additional cost or time scale as I only get one day off and need the car etc. if I had known the above I would never have bought them and gone for another option

I know it's hard but try not to get yourself down PERFORMANCE FRICTION pads are top draw and once fitted you will be ravin about how good they are for yourself,just remember worst things can happen in life,So just get them pads sorted out and fitted mate.SJ.

Thanks mate, appreciate your help and will see if anyone local can help. I wanted then fitted for my trackday a week sat but that is looking unlikely

Should be sorted by tomo. Found a place local to me that will do the work, just dropped the pads off and will be collecting them tomo. The pads need to be 17mm to fit, just had the guy check and they are 18mm so I will have to pay to get them to fit. Overall pretty miffed not only with the added expense but the way it's been, well not handled. I explained they were not the right size to which I would have had to cover the cost to post them back to the supplier and then pay to get the skimming done. Lesson learnt and now I'm more of a frequent poster on here I will share my opinions whenever certain topics come up. Appreciate the helpful advice that people have given me, just dissapointed.

Didn't the place you got them from, know they were for d2 calipers? And did they advise that they would need modding to fit?
I'm sure they 'should' of known this and advised accordingly.

Aren't you using the k sports still? And are they same fitting as d2? As I would of thought there's more option of pads for ksports as with d2s

If they needed grinding down at my expense then I wouldn't have bought them. It's costing me £30-£40 to get them done making the pads £170 ish. Thing is they should be 17mm and I've seen with my very own eyes that they were checked with a vernier or whatever you call it that they are 18mm.

And they did know what calipers I have

Nope. Like I say mate if they had I wouldn't have bought them or atleast took into account the cost of getting them done.

D2 and ksports are the same. The pads are good but you have to mention when ordering that you need the 17mm and not the 18mm.

I grinded them down and it worked in the end, but because of that it took some time to bed in.

I can understand Imprezaworks, I was p....d of but in the end it worked and they really are good pads.

Ah so you can get them in 17mm too? IW swap them if you still can.

Yeah tez is good, into his off roaders now (LR defender) jacked up with the fancy off rd toys.

Yes still running good, few things modified;) and big things planned.

Going to buy a Porsche as a daily run , the impreza will still be my toy and will not be sold. I always enjoy the runs with it. I´m running with more boost now and am getting the Turbo billeted.

Which Porsche? I like most of them, bar the non turbos. 996 4wd is a good one
