How many people actually watch anything on tv nowadays? After my mrs told me a young girl at her work doesn't have a TV I've been thinking what do we watch?
I watch moto gp once every couple of weeks and the season ends soon. Surely I could did this online streaming? Football lately is boring the **** out of me and I haven't missed sky sports or the f1 channel this season at all.

Honestly my tv hasn't changed channel from the peppa pig channel for several days now.

A mate of mine hasn't had a tv for years. He watches anything he's interested in on his pc.

He does get a bit of stick for it but looking at the almost endless stream of complete and utter ****e, particularly on Saturday nights I can't say I blame him!!

Think about what you actually watch, or what you could actually do without and compare that to what you pay per month for sky etc.

I worry more about how much I pay for my licence fee for all the BBC I watch (which isn't much)

It's a strange situation because you are basically right I suppose but I'd still rather have a TV even though there's nothing that I must watch on it.

For example, right now I'm watching 'nothing to declare' on sky living HD. There's no way I would bother logging onto a computer/tablet to steam/download the episodes. I don't need to watch it but it's mild entertainment while I wait for the dinner to cook. I guess you could call it casual TV watching. Most of the programs I watch are just random programs that I'll casually watch and there's no series that I follow, but I'd still rather have the TV on in the background than no TV at all.

I don't have a TV license so don't watch TV.

then a mixture of gangster programs,special one offs etc and also things like monsters inside me and other related shows

i do not watch ****e like eastenders,x factor,britains got talent,big brother etc as i think its utter bollocks,how anybody can sit and watch the x-factor and really think that they are watching pure talent is beyond me

Why would you do that, it's the TV licensing peoples' job?

I only pay for a tv licence which I have no choice in. Stopped Sky a year or two ago as they show mostly ****e too.

I work fairly unsocial hours and most of what I watch is recorded or I'll watch a dvd.

Thats what torrents were invented for, I only have a big TV so I can use it to plug my laptops HDMI port into.

I have a TV licence because I assume i have the "ability" to watch tv, so might still require one

Been thinking about this myself, but I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this sort of stuff. I usually download on to a usb and play it through my xbox. Problem is, not everything plays via xbox, but plays fine on laptop. Am I right in thinking I just need a HDMI cable running from the laptop to the plasma? Does the sound come from the pc or TV??

Comes from the TV, and yes as long as your computer has a HDMI output on it :)

Sweet!! Do you lose any quality doing it this way, or is it just the same as watching off a usb?

It will be better quality than watching from a usb mate, will run at the maximum quality you can ouput or the video is recorded in etc as far as I am aware a usb wont be able to out put "HD"

Right I get you, Do you not have a HDMI socket on your laptop?

USB is a data interface, not a media one like HDMI. The quality from USB is whatever the source video is recorded in.

It seems alot of them dont offer this capability, i spent ages looking for one when i bought a laptop with a hdmi port.

I dont think VGA leads do sound, I cant say as I havent used one before!

Personally, I'm absolutely SICK of watching adverts. Each hour's programming now has a minimum of 25 minutes advertising.

Sky+ deals with that.
Even better if you watch on anytime+, as the ads are automatically dropped

completely agree, the mrs likes to watch x factor (I go to the pub while it is on) Over 2hrs of programme, and at least an hour is adverts! Means they have to put less content on and spend less money on programmes while the british public again idlelly sit back and let it happen

Don't knock the tv license. It also funds bbc radio and the bbc internet content.
