P1 Rebulld Valve Question
Hi
I am in the middle of rebuilding the engine on my 2001 P1 when it was dismantled I kept a note of every bolt and where it came from the same with the valve shims and buckets. When I reasemble the heads would there be any reason that the valve clearances would change at all bearing in mind every thing is going back as dismantled. Also does any one know the valve clearences on the P1. Thanks for any help |
Always check the clearances on assembly.
Did you check the clearances when you stripped the engine to see if any of the clearances have closed up. btw - clearances are : Inlets 0.006 ~ 0.008" Exhausts 0.008 ~ 0.010" Mick |
No I have to say not checked before stripped but I will check them when heads are on and bolted down.
They just look like a pain to adjust the shims all look the same size although not measured them with a micrometer. Thanks for in info |
Easy enough to check and adjust the clearances by re-shimming using a micrometer or vernier calipers.
It would be prudent to place some tissue paper or similar in the bottom of the heads to block of the oil return gallery's to the sump when you are doing the shims - if you happen to drop a shim inside the head, chances are it will end up in the sump or stuck on the windage tray - sump off to retrieve it.
