Back in a turbo...the first look
 

A slightly long winded tale on where I have got to but bear with me :)

Years ago had a UK classic in DBM and after over 7 years I decided to break it as it was worth more in parts than as a whole. A hell of lot of money had gone into that one but it certainly gave me ideas on how to temper my approach to these cars and not to just chuck money at it.

A year or so or driving a horrible boring Ford Mondeo made me want the rumble of a flat 4 again and limited funds meant I could only look at sports. Found a cheap sport in DBM which needed some work. (well a lot of work !! )
Replaced the entire exhaust system from borla manifold, decat centre pipe and backbox. It now needs a few things doing to it again like rear hubs, disc conversion from drums and the tracking so instead of chucking money at it, I decided to cut my losses and sell it. (see for sale advert coming up soon)

In the meantime I started looking around for another classic and just happened upon this one on ebay. It was a trade in and the guy selling didnt want to keep it, didn't know much about them and was happy to find someone who would take on a project.

Amazingly it is nearly the same year as my first scoob, same colour, trim etc but there the similarities end :lol1:

This is as 'standard' as you can get. In fact I would say that aside from service items not a single upgrade has graced this car. It has the original stickers on the inside, on the glass, pea shooter exhaust and wheels.

Full service history up to 107K and currently stands at 112K. 21 stamps in the book all done by main dealers and a load of receipts, MOT certificates etc.

It had a few issues ( :lol1: a few :eek:) like worn rear and front discs, metal on metal pads, calipers all shot to bits and it was this that failed it's last MOT. Small crack on the windscreen near the bottom side of the passenger side but no failure and tyres are a bit worn. Then there is the rust, wow.
Nothing major but there is rust on one of the rear arches and across the leading edge of the front windscreen. Nothing that can't be sorted so I am not overly worried. Normal dings and scrapes from a car of this age.

Oh yes someone has replaced the bonnet with one in the wrong dbm, they chose 52D instead of 95H :lol1::lol1::lol1:

And the price ? Well I won't let on because it will make you weep :) but lets just say it was even cheaper than my sport :lol1:.
Drove it home a week ago and even though the discs were scraping away I really enjoyed being back in a turbo.

No major plans yet because this will be be brought back to life in time but slowly and carefully and as funds allow.

Welcome back; hadn`t seen your name crop up for a while. I am sure that you will soon be back into old habits, flinging mods and money at it!!

cheers for that. I have not beena round for a while, mainly because of tossers on here. But with this scoob I will be back albeit in a lesser form that I used to be.

Have to be moderate on the mods so to speak :D

Nice to see the DBM's again. I must admit, I could spot that bonnnet was 52d, before I finished reading. I had a 52d rear bumper on my 95h and it was easy to pick put when you knew.

I had to laugh when I went to look at the car, it was a bit obvious the colour difference :D

But I am sure I can find one at some point :thumb:

What's he been filling it with? Compost? The state behind that fuel flap!

But it will, when the weather improves, be properly cleaned up to my standards

Car goes for it first service today. Overdue I think and it is having a full one, filter, plugs, oil, gearbox oil, coolant and other checks.

I've still not got around to working on mine since doing your brakes! It was enough to put me off of Subaru's for a while :lol1:

Still have a soft spot for these, as my first scoob back in 2003 was a DBM Turbo 2000, remember paying £10,500 back then, and I can still remember the drive back home from Stockport to Walsall, it felt like the fastest car in the world to me then(had the PPP:D) But it made a big impression on me as 10 years later ive still got a scooby!!!:luvlove:

Bought my first DBM turbo way back in 2003 and cost me a fair penny, only one owner at 32000 miles.

Then I went mental, one blown engine, Santa Pod, Castle Combe you name it, mods galore but enjoyed every minute of the 7 years.

So it is great to be back in one again :norty:
