Bit of a strange one
 

Hi,
I couldn't get the ht lead into cylinder 4 last night. The lead/coil looked fine, in fact I tried cyl 2's lead with the same result and cyl 4's lead goes into cyl 2's plug without a problem.
So thought if I get cyl 4's plug out there might be something astray but could not get it out????
The plug spanner didn't seem to grip the plug properly, of course I can't see down the hole now the engine is in.

It can only be a small number of things really
Either some how the washers come off the plug , unlikely
Your not on square when you've tried to get the coil or socket on , cuz it's fiddley , most Likley , you've dropped summat down by the plug , small nut or summat , again quite Likley
Or worse case scenario , the plugs in cross threaded and sitting pi$$ed up, unlikely, I'm sure you'd know and be sitting beside your car in a pool of tears by now ;)

Btw if you grind or sand the very small leading edge off your socket so it's totally flat it makes it very slightly harder to get the socket on but gets the socket on the nut that little bit more , it can make it just enough to get the bite you need ;)

I'm thinking the rubber washer inside the plug spanner has come off on the plug

I've done this before. It's a pain in the rectal area to get it out again.

I used a dentist like pick in the end, although this was on a motor where I had better access to the heads.

I'm hoping this build is a baptism of fire, that everything that can go wrong has happened so surely if I did this all again it would be. Things that should take 30 seconds are becoming complicated and taking forever :razz:

Try coating the offending spark plug socket with wd40, then with a small extension try rotating the socket in the sparkplug chamber to see if you can get the rubber boot back inside the socket..its worked for me ;-)

How has it melted, have you had the engine running yet?

Just take the plug back out remove the offending rubber and replace plug ....ffs dentist’s pick, is this a wind up?
