What Power?

I'm considering going down the 2.0 / larger turbo route, but without too much lag if possible.

I've got a 2.0 STI Blobeye which I plan on a remap on 15-20% methanol with a SC46, and maybe billeted at that. The rest of the car will be supported, but what type of power should I expect?

I'm hoping to get well over 450. I plan on getting as close to 500 as possible, but I don't want it to be too undriveably laggy.

Thoughts please :D

Oh and why an SC46 you may ask, because I've already got one.

Hi Rob

Is that Non Billet SC46?

tubbytommy 06 October 2013 06:33 PM

i doubt you will get much more than 450 with an sc46

craigyp 06 October 2013 07:11 PM

seen 480-90 out of the billeted 46. im running the mdx321t on a 2 litre its not too laggy and I'll find out what power im running fri.

stevebt 06 October 2013 07:15 PM

People need to stop worrying about lag, you xar at 450bhp will never be as nippy as a 300bhp tdo4 car but the difference in power delivery will be amazing.

Thee good thing with gears is you can change down and be instantly on boost.

My car will be laggy compared to some low bhp cars but if I was to drop it into 2nd/3rd gear and floor it its :D:D

I'd be happy with that, but with meth on a 2.0 with avcs I was hoping to rekindle the lost spool, and ultimately push the turbo as much as possible. There doesn't seem much info about the SC46 on here, so it's hard to judge its capabilities. SC state it's sold as 460 with the billet wheel.

Non bud, but I was thinking of getting billeted, to help increase spool and power

Excellent, this is good to know. I take it your T is billeted? The SC and MD are very similar arnt they?

Your right Steve, but too much lag isn't good for anyone. Your always reducing spool when you make the wheel larger, it's factual. But I couldn't drive a car with 500bhp if it didn't come in until 4'500-5'000rpm. I've bad GT30 on a 2.0 bug at 430bhp in the past and it was a little laggy in comparison to the 2.1 500bhp classic I had. I know weight is a factor, but a billet makes such a big difference.

what turbo and set up mate?

Shaun 06 October 2013 07:53 PM

What you could get does not mean you will get it.

Meth does not alter spool.

craigyp 06 October 2013 07:54 PM

yeah the mdx321t is billet. very nice turbo

really??
I thought meth gained a bit of spool.

Jacko4130 06 October 2013 08:00 PM

I run a 46 billet on a 2ltr and running 429/380 but it is a little laggy, Its lazy until 4500/5000 when it takes off.

While the car is off the road this winter i am planning on trying to reduce the lag.

Crickey that is a bit on the late side. Must feel rather neck snapping when it kicks in.
What does something with this sort of power drive like on a back road?

craigyp 06 October 2013 08:05 PM

im not doubting you just always thought it did.

Its not as bad as it sounds just could do with earlier spool

It's that on standard internals ?

The reason I ask is that,I've got a UK 05 STi, I'm thinking about going for 400bhp with matching torque.I know I've got to change the turbo etc,but I'm concerned if the internals will handle that mount of power without melting.

mickywrx 06 October 2013 08:25 PM

Mapped on the road, Jacko?

IT will never be that laggy unless you really have problems as I run high 600's and I see full boost at around 3600rpm. I know from the warnings on my dash I'm at 2.3bar well before 4000rpm ;)

Jacko4130 06 October 2013 08:28 PM

No its forged but STI bottom end is ok for the power i'm running . Mine got forged when it papped its pants and killed the bottom end.

No mapped by Simon on a dyno.

mickywrx 06 October 2013 08:31 PM

Who's Dyno? Only asking as on your graph it had only done 4 pulls at the Clinic.

wrx9181 06 October 2013 08:33 PM

The turbo he was on about Craig that's why I posted.

Sc46
Meth adds torque though Shaun and that adds real word performance
Numbers are at the end of the day just numbers .

No, but if you don't have a target how do you know where to aim?

Re spool and meth, I think your wrong unless my mechanic and mappers bulling me :D

Was mapped on Area52's dyno.

An STI MY01-MY05 2.0 will see 400 on standard internals for fun :thumb:

joe v3sti 06 October 2013 08:41 PM

In my v2 Sti Ra with the baby td05 there actually is pretty much no lag. The gearbox means the revs are generally high and constantly on boost. What gearbox are you running Rob Day?

Joe

wrx9181 06 October 2013 08:41 PM

Mine was totally standard internals and ran while I had it faultless for 2 years over 400 hp getting to 460 plus on meth 439 on v power
But my car was very well looked after oil every 2k etc etc

craigyp 06 October 2013 08:43 PM
