What if any issues would overboosting cause ?

If a car is mapped to a certain bar of boost, yet you alter the actuator to cause a bit more boost/overboost but it still runs fine and it settles back down quickly to what it should be once the wastegate opens, would this cause damage or timing alterations cause of the overboost etc ?

Long story into my question so just answers really

cheers

Depends on the extent of the increase in boost. It's a very cowboy way of increasing boost.

Secondly if you are forcing more air in and not compensating it the right fuel mixture you will end up running lean and could cause detonation. Of course that is at the extreme end of the scale.

overboost is for about 1 or 2 seconds at full throttle in each gear and only an increase by about 0.2 bar it then goes to the mapped pressure it should be.

like i say, alot in the background as to why i ask this LOL, ive read alot fo guys increasing actuator settings and gained a little smidge of higher boost with no issues

Why risk it mate, you will see very little if any performance gain from it and altering your car from its map for a long period of time is asking for it

As crewj said running lean will cause engine damage.

1 or 2 seconds is quite a long time if you consider how many times it fires in that time. At 6000rpm you fire 2 times (720° cycle, 4 cylinders) every rev so that's 100rps so 200 combustions per second.

How much of a difference 0.2 bar makes I'm not sure about.
