cost of going for 550bhp?
Taken my 2005 blob sti off road for winter to hopefully get it to 500+bhp.. not sure what engine to go for tho. The car wilo mostly be used on the road with half a dozen track days a year...
current spec is MD321T NON BILLET 650CC INJECTORS HDI FMIC GT SPEC HEADERS RCM UP PIPE BLITZ NUR SPEC R 3" TURBO BACK 3PORT BOOST BC COILOVERS CAMBER BOLTS BREMBOS Engine, turbo and injectors are to be sold hoping to get a second hand forged engine. . But what shal I go for 2.1 or 2.5? And which turbo? Thanks ryan |
2.35 if you can find one gets my vote, that way the skies the limit should you decide to go further.
But your going to need deep pockets. |
2.1 with a rotated billet 30 will get you the power you want, but hope you're prepared for all the little things you will need as they add up.. fast!
|
2.1, gt30, 1000cc injectors
|
Plan for car is
. Engine . Twin plate clutch . Creamic coat headers, up pipe, turbo (not decided which one to go for yet) and downpipe. . Reverse inlet . Fuel pump . Injectors 1000cc . Swirl pot Probably loads more which I have forgot about... would love a 2.35 but there the big ££££ dont think will have money for that :( |
For track days a baffled sump and a catch can would be advisable

I have until next april to get car done and finished. Saving about £250 a month on fuel by hwving it off the road. Engine in it now has only covered 36k so with turbo and injectors hoping to get £2200 for the lot |
Doubt you'll see £2.2k for that lot, are you talking long engine or just the bottom end?
|
You selling complete engine? If so what heads are you going to use? As yours now would most likely be up to the job

Find yourself a decent cdb. Depending on the spec of the build I'd say your looking at around 3k for the bottom end. Keep your heads and go from there. Bannys a good lad to talk to as he's plenty of experience with these projects. But that's where I'd start. Why 550hp anyway? That'll make a ridiculous road car

Its resleeved, but for more than 450ftlbs youd probably want to be looking for closed deck inserts. The 2.5 is a great road engine though, so maybe pull back your power aspirations in return for a nicer road drive.... out of interest, wheres the 550 figure from? |

The power delivery from a rotated setup is completely different from a standard position turbo, its hard to put into words but I've standard position at 440 and rotated at 450 and the rotated felt a lot quicker.
|
Looks decent and fairly close to you isn't it? As said though, over 450 then should be pinned or cd inserts.

Yeah only 20 min drive away.. might pop over and have a look over weekend |
Basically what im doing this, i got a 2litre cdb, cosworth pistons and rods, nitrided crank, mine will be staying a 2litre as i couldnt find cosworth stroker pistons at that time for the right money, i got hayward and scott rotated pipework, im using lateral modded 850 injectors and a non billet gt3076r blowing through jdm big port heads hoping to see 550 with a slash of meth

2.1 with gt30 billet but with .82 housing ..;)
|
Dumb question, but who sells the billet gt 30's?
|
Scooby clinic
|
Tt's going to cost you a lot more than you think as its a slippery slope, 550bhp is a nice figure but its not very fast and when you push for more the costs spiral.
Best thing now is to spec for as high as you can as its so easy to change your mind so spec'ing low will just cost you more in the long run :D Basically your spec is redundant so its all for resale so you need to think do you need all the grief :) |
Best part of £20K at least.

No way 20k, i think i got 4k in my engine, 1500 turbo and pipework, 2k in other bits and bobs and 500 for mapping, and whatever my bill is from as performance for bolting it all together

Ok I re read your first post and see you won't need the 6 speed, you have a front mount. But you said you want to go rotated in an earlier post, rotated pipe work is the best part of a grand, waste gate is £400, gt30 turbo is £1500, cone and silicone hose is £200, engine is gonna cost you £5k+, then your engine management, alcatek ecu is a grand, then you have all the sensors needed, that's another £500+, then clutch £1k (unless you have a suitable one now) fuel system etc.
£20k is from my own experience which is with a WRX is more work needed, but I'm just saying it all adds up quickly!!! |
