Stripped exhaust manifold thread in head
Hello,
i have S/S headers which had an exhaust leak, replaced the gaskets with FIA gaskets not the cheap ebay jobs that were in there, helped one side however on the drivers side, one of the stud threads in the head is completely stripped, hence the blowing that i was experiencing along with poor gaskets... Question..... how the hell do i fix it :( ................. thought about tap and die but i dont know if theres enough room to use this........ any thoughts or experiences i would love to here.... your sincerly..... a current 'not driving' my pride and joy member....:( |
Helicoil it mate, get a kit from cromwell tools if desperate for it, or ebay if not.
You drill the hole out, then thread it insert the helicoil and bobs your uncle, use the right sized stud :) |
Hello, thanks for the super fast reply :) are they strong enough to last? simple operation I presume?..
Thanks again you have eased my stress lol... |
Yes it will be fine mate, dont buy genuine helicoil, will cost 4x as much as a different brand :)
|
Which one would you buy mate?
|
They are all the same, just take the stud to cromwell and they will give you their kit mine is a "kennedy" branded one, works fine.
Got a whole set here from m2.5-m12 of varying brands etc and can see very little difference to the inserts between brands, just different styles tools really! was about 14quid from cromwell for the one size |
