Front 02 sensor.....hate!!
So today I set about replacing my front 02 sensor on my Bug as it's dead according to the diagnostic.
But I can't get the flipping thing out tried spammers, money wrench extended socket and it just won't move, don't want to damage it and not be able to get it off, so what is the best way to remove this or is there a special tool needed? Thanks |
There is a special socket, any good motor factor will sell it.
When I changed mine on my forester I could not shift it, even with the socket. Plastered it in penetrating oil, left it overnight and it almost unscrewed by hand! |
It might need an air or electric impact wrench, or take it to your friendly garage, they'll have it out no problem.

ring spanner when its warm, never had one not come off.
|
Thanks guys will try the rug spanner when it's warm idea tomorrow, if not then I will soak it in fluid leave it overnight and try again.
Just tried my mates Draper Oxygen sensor sockets no it didn't budge it, it just kept opening the ends up on the socket!! When I do finally get the damn thing off lol, do I need sealant / cooper grease or anything when I put the new one back in?! |
you can slip a jubilee clip on the 02 socket to stop it opening up
|
As said the correct socket should work, Are you trying to remove it through wheel arch or by underneath the car?
I did mine recently and found it very simple to remove with the correct socket, but you have to ensure the socket is straight. Take the panel off in the wheel arch and bobs your uncle You should get gunk in with the new sensor, simply smear it on the new thread |

I dont know how much room there is to get to it but try shocking it, put tension on a ring spanner and hit it with a hammer :)
|
I'm going through wheel arch take a little panel off, poxy thing is hard on there, given up today to dark.
Wish my mate who knew Scoobys didn't move to OZ lol! I will give the other suggestions ago tomorrow when I'm in a Better mood....probably doesn't help just having a carpel tunnel operation 6 weeks ago and my wrist feeling weak and very very sore :( |
if your struggling pop to your local exhaust centre, get it up on a ramp and swap it over,
just tie a draw wire on to the old cable so you can pull the new one back easily. |
