Newbie. Looking to buy this scooby
 

Hi all,

My names Lewis, 28 and live in Essex. Just joined your community and currently looking to get into the Scooby world. I currently have a Starlet GT which I've owned for 7 years and selling up to get something bigger and more standard but with power.

I'm really interested in this Scooby, can anyone please let me know what other questions I should ask and things to maybe look out for.

Firstly I would say that's a long way to travel for a relatively standard car with not much of a description....these types of ad really put me off 'pocket rocket' etc etc..
I paid the same money for an 05 sti widetrack so I think that one is over priced.
I would look for one with a good detailed description of any engine work etc. As you say, you are looking for a standard car but with power..it's always worth knowing who has done the work.

Thanks mate, appreciate your reply. Would you say it sounds like its far from standard (bar the exhaust) reading from the description? I'm willing to travel the distance for the right one and haven't seen too many for sale that look as clean to be honest. Are these cars pretty reliable when un-modified? I've been told just to look out to make sure the cambelts been changed if looking at the 50K + mile scoobies..

If it's running 340 bhp (proof needed . Dyne sheet etc) then no it's not standard. I would think that it has been mapped, given a filter and the exhaust changed along with maybe a fuel pump upgrade.... They are reliable cars yes, but as with any car it's how it has been treated. Ie. Has decent oil been used? Has it been warmed up before any kind of hard use? Is it allowed to cool before turning off? All the usuals really. If you find anything in the bucks area I would be happy to look at one with you.

But an 03 at nearly 7k is over the odds.

They seem to be trying to sell it as a rare powerhouse.
I don't think black's 'that' rare is it?

I'd describe the car as a 'usual' upgraded one, but as said an unusal price for it.

And as said, proof's needed - dyno, remapping, invoices etc.

I remember you from TGTT, and as everyone else has said just hold out for the right one and look for proof of everything etc!

It depends what you want from it compared to the starbo (I loved your starbo, it looked the nuts)

If you want a similar "raw" drive then id be looking at the classic shaped ones, but if you want the comfort etc then a blob etc is the one to go for, personally i went for a classic as i liked the feel better, If you do go for a blob make sure it is the widetrack one :)

I'm more after a comfortable drive, something with a bit of pull and subtle but aggressive looks. Whats the difference between the 'widetrack' version?

I have emailed the car company in West Yorkshire asking for more details on the work carried out etc..

The wide track is exactly as says on the tin, had a wider "track/stance" on the road :)

The muppet should have said 'bradford', bradford is pretty much a wheeler and deal type city, everything they can sell they will sell. And will make it sound amazing, kinda like Leicester Aswell,

But let me put it this way I bought my car from prob a place everyone would have avoided, and I'm still going strong a year later :)

On this site, so the seller is aware of your interest, and that you can " almost stretch to it considering it's a mint well looked after example."

Ok guys, had a response from the West Yorkshire company regarding the black STI...

They have all the proof of mods and dyno printouts. All mods have been carried out by AI Autosport in Co Antrim.

They cannot comment on the warming up/cooling down/oil used by the previous owners as it is impossible to answer, however they confirm it is in perfect mechanical condition as they specialise in Subaru's so they know the difference between a good and bad one..

Here's my view.

It may be nice, it may have receipts. But it is a 2003 model and a bit over priced.
It's all the way up in Yorkshire.....I have bought cars from Scotland before and I certainly wasn't going up to 'just have a look' you go with cash and you end up buying the thing...so if you are willing to travel all that way I would say that you need to convince yourself that it's the car you want and it's worth the cash at that asking price...because you may well get there, try to haggle and get nowhere.... Then it's either pay up or go back empty handed.

I would wait a week or so and see what comes up.. I was desperate to get an sti like mine and nearly jumped at the wrong one purely out of impatience, but I waited and then found the one I have now...it needs a little body work sorting which is being done this month but that was reflected in the price .. They come up often so you won't have to hang around for long

But that's just my view, remember this is just a forum. Don't let folks put you off something that you really want to do.

Has the car reg got a 'Z' in it?
It could have been originally from NI (not that that's necessarily a bad thing).
