Which Bilstein shocks for Hawkeye?

34K miles in and my shocks are going. I've already got Prodrive springs in so I believe it's a good match for a Bilstien shock.

Can anyone tell me which Bilstein is a direct replacement for the OEM shock with the Prodrive springs - all other things being standard. And are there any adjustable ones?

Car is an 07 Hawkeye STi.

Yip that's me mate. And that's exactly what I want, and a set for the rear. I'll certainly give BRT a shout.

Cheers mate.

If you are looking for rears try to get a set that have had the '3rd bearing reworked' They can develop the knocking like std sti rears but bilstein repaired loads under warranty, theyll have a sticker on shock saying '3rd bearing reworked'

Can you recommend anyone to fit in NI?

fpan 26 September 2013 11:04 PM

Get someone e.g. Chevron to replace the bushes.
These get worn as a result of which there is lateral play in the piston within the shock's body.
Inverted monotube shocks are good for tens of thousands of miles.

Are these in the ebay listing a direct replacement for the current OEM shock?

Will they fit with my Prodrive Springs? (Which were a direct replacement for the OEM springs).

Do I need any other parts to fit them?

And does anyone know where I would find a matching set for the rear? It's really my rears that need done however i will just do the lot if i can get a full set.

Gambit 27 September 2013 09:30 AM

Yes mate direct replacement fit with Prodrive springs. You will not need anything else. try on the RB320 owners club you might get a rear set for sale.

are your rear shocks knocking just? if so you can strip them and repack with marine grade grease. the factory grease in them is more like a wax that goes hard and causes the knock. i had my rears done about 3mths ago

this video gives you an idea of whats involved with the rear shock

i didnt do the grease nipple i just repacked them.

Yes they are just knocking. It's been coming on for a few months now but is getting worse rapidly. TBH I would be happy enough to manage to upgrade them all to the Prodrive Bilsteins as I drove an RB and thought the Bilstein / Prodrive spring combination worked well.

So if I can find set of rears I'll get the fronts either off the bay link you gave me or Big Red in Bangor who has confirmed that he still has them for sale. I won't buy until i know I can get all 4 though.

I might also check if there is an alternative more up to date shock available from Bilstein as a direct replacement as a back up in case I can't get a set of rears.

Hey Gambit.

Tied up with Big Red T and bought his Prodrive Bilsteins for the front. Couldn't find a set for the rear so i matched them with a set of KYB Ultra SR's for the rear. Both the Bilsteins and the KYB's are a marked improvement over the OEM and a great match with my Prodrive Springs.

Well pleased with the result. Much smoother ride. Great set up for our roads. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah maye defo a far more complient shock for our roads :)
