Bugeye WRX offset?

Hi Guys, I`m after changing my alloys I would like to go for 18`s but I am not sure which offset etc I can safely go to? I believe 18x8j would be fine? but I do not understand the offset side of things? I have seen some alloys advertised with an et of 51? I have no idea what that means:wonder::wonder: I would appreciate any help you guys can give me:thumb:

In simple terms the offset is how far the wheel will stick out. The lower the number the more it will be stick out. But manufacturers counter act that with the hub position. There are lots of varying factors to consider like the wheel width and the height of the car. As far as I'm aware, et48 is good on subaru's but standard new age wheels are et55 I believe so you should be fine with et51. An et48 will fill the arch slightly more though.
I hope that makes sense and I'm sure someone will say I'm wrong! Lol
Cheers Paul.
