Who to use for wheel alignment/camber

Hi guys.
I'm after somewhere to set up the tracking & camber on my classic. Its a track car so somewhere able to recommend a more track oriented set up would be best.
Also might get them to adjust rear ride height as I'm not sure I'll have time :(
Somewhere near Essex/Suffolk would be nice if possible. Any recommendations?
Cheers :)
James

I would only use a Scoob specialist, especially for track use.

I can recommend Carnetix at Melton Mowbray, and Power Station near Cheltenham.

Both are worth traveling to.

greg320 25 September 2013 11:50 AM

Chevron Motorsport , but their in stafford, worth the run you wouldn't be disappointed

James N 25 September 2013 11:59 AM

Carnetix is the nearest by over an hour so that may be the one to use :)
I agree its worth travelling to find a decent place. I would like to find somewhere near as possible though, and 2 of those are over 3 1/2 hours :(

banny sti 25 September 2013 12:01 PM

Chevron bar none, what Simon does not know about suspension setup is not worth knowing!

James N 25 September 2013 12:11 PM

2 votes for them.. its a long drive but maybe its worth it :)

alcazar 25 September 2013 12:51 PM

Carnetix, mate.

They will discuss with you what setup you want, what effect it will have and what tyre wear will be like, before touching the car.

Then they make the adjustments, and test drive it with you in, to see that it's doing what it should be. then you drive back to see if it's what you wanted.

Second to none. And Professional people.
Both used to be with TSL, but broke away to start their own business.

Carnetix did mine & would recommend them, plus the price was very good. Chevron are very good too & ScoobyClinic.

romford-boy 25 September 2013 01:30 PM

I am off to SkidMarques this weekend:

James N 25 September 2013 01:35 PM

Cheers for all the suggestions. Scoobyclinic are great, they supplied my Altec ECU & mapping, but again they're miles away :(
Carnetix seems like it could be ideal :)

theboywhippo 25 September 2013 01:37 PM

Another vote for Glen and Becky at Carnetix here. They look after my Type R (and the missus Espace lol) and I wouldn't take either of them anywhere else.

James N 25 September 2013 02:23 PM

Would they be able to adjust camber too? :)

AWG 25 September 2013 02:57 PM

Skidmarques - 100%

banny sti 25 September 2013 03:04 PM

If you have adjustable top mounts or camber bolts then there should be no issue adjusting that to

James N 25 September 2013 03:17 PM

Adjust front top mounts but haven't fitted rear camber bolts. I'd better get some ordered :)
I'll take a look at skidmarques too.

James N 25 September 2013 03:30 PM

Skidmarques are actually pretty local to me... I'll give both a call& see if they would be able to accurately adjust ride height :)

need4speeduk 25 September 2013 05:17 PM

If it's a track car then your list of places to go should include Chevron, Chevron, & Chevron.

I wouldn't go anywhere else. Simple as that

I would NOT entrust this to a tyre dealer, sorry.

Edited: Unless you just want a standard setting.

Who are Chevron, and what is their Scoob pedigree?

James N 25 September 2013 06:09 PM

I dont want to use a tyre dealer to be honest. Although that site does mention track day set up etc.
Chevron does seem to be the best in terms of reputation. Long drive there though. Suppose it may be best to accept the 3-4hrs drive there..

KP Nuts 25 September 2013 06:24 PM

Any recommendation for the same work near Salisbury wilts

alcazar 25 September 2013 07:26 PM

Power Station.

Reputation? First I've heard of them on this site.

What's their pedigree?

KP Nuts 25 September 2013 07:28 PM

Where are they you had experience of them?

Sorry, I'll rephrase that. They just seem to come very highly recommended. I'll have to have a look at powerstation too, I have heard good things about them before.

A bit of a generalisation, Skidmarques are very good and do the full range of set ups and have the very latest alignment equipment :thumb: , large premises and competent friendly staff. :) Ask for Damien and he will sort you out club discount aswell :)

Frayz, myself and most of the Essex Subaru Owners Club use Skidmarques for tyre fitting and alignment :)

They do some high end cars :)

I had my car setup at powerstation and chevron and there's no comparison, ask bob Rawle he's had his car setup with chevron.

Your a proper Yorkshire Terrier you are.:lol1:

Cheveron are the Time Attack suspension and handling daddies.

banny sti 26 September 2013 08:44 AM

Chevron setup my old 666bhp scoob up, the difference was night and day. One phone call to adjust the camber on the front top mounts and it was ready for track use

Hi James, from your location I'd say we're pretty close to you :)

Over the years we've optimised a number of road, track and race cars competing in the Nippon Challenge, Time Attack, Sprints, Stage Rallies, Hillclimbs etc. so fairly confident we can provide you with whatever you may need.
Whilst setting the alignment correctly for your track car is a must we can go a little further using our experience to evaluate your overall set-up, suggest any enhancements that we may feel will benefit you and corner weight your car if the budget allows :thumb:

frayz 26 September 2013 11:36 AM

Damien at Skidmarques in Hutton isn't just your average tyre shop. They're based next to Mountune/Revolve technologies and do lots of chassis setup on the Ford RS and BTCC program.
Exceptional service too and they're local.
However Simon @ Chevron knows Impreza chassis setup better than probably anyone in the country. So worth the journey if the budget allows.

Whoever you choose, well worth researching their company and recommendations from others.

Best of luck.
