Compomotive in administration

From local paper's website 19/09/2013:

"24 lose jobs as Wolverhampton motorsport firm collapses.

Wolverhampton-based Compomotive Motorsport Wheels has gone into administration after suffering a slide in turnover.

Matthew Ingram and John Whitfield of financial advice and restructuring firm Duff & Phelps have been appointed as joint administrators.

It is understood they took the decision to cease trading at the business and are now attempting to sell off the assets.

Matthew Ingram of Duff & Phelps said: “Despite its strong brand reputation the business has been suffering from declining turnover for a sustained period, largely due to cheaper imports and a subdued trading environment. This has ultimately resulted in its closure and the unfortunate loss of 24 jobs in the local economy.”

The employees at Compomotive Motorsport’s base on the Wulfrun Trading Estate had been made redundant before Duff & Phelps were appointed.

The family-run firm, started by Bill Dixon in 1973, made a range of competition wheels for motorsport teams".

that sucks.

Rota killed 'em?

BLU 19 September 2013 02:40 PM

Bad news :(

Luminous 19 September 2013 03:52 PM

Never liked their wheels. They had a good name, but was not deserved in my opinion. All of my mates who bought their wheels had centre caps that degraded within a year, and then the lacquer on the wheels itself started to turn a dirty brown.

Not a patch on the OZ wheels I got for my car.

Still, its not good for those who lost their jobs :(

tubbytommy 19 September 2013 04:00 PM

didnt move with the fashion. everyone wants wide concave wheels at the moment of which they dont sell.

shame though i had some compomotives on my old escort cosworth, they were the rotas of there day.

trails 19 September 2013 04:11 PM

But Rota just copy other peoples wheels (badly in some cases if you consider the failures)...Compomotive were original :)

no doubting that as it's Compomotive that have gone under not Rota :(

yes, particularly one with such a long association with decent cars and motorsport :thumb:

g7prs 19 September 2013 04:42 PM

Have to agree with Dan, they made some great looking wheels. Damn shame.

Fat Boy 19 September 2013 05:05 PM

I destroyed one of those integrale wheels years ago after getting a puncture and sliding sideways on into a kerb - the replacement wasn't cheap...

Sorry to see them go - proper rally/motorsport wheels not like the young pretenders

The bee sting was fitted just after that photo :lol1:
Never owned a set of TSWs though. Those wheels cost me £80 second hand for the set back then!

You're welcome to your opinion, but as a former owner of an Evolution 2 my view is you're missing the point.

They handle better than any scooby even now. Not that much power compared to modern cars agreed, but then a Db5 is also slow, but that's still desirable. Yes they are a product of their time - boxy plastic interiors etc and the rear diff was a weakness, but a genuine classic car.

They are all LHD - the only rhd ones were conversions that lost the steering feel and braking feel post conversion

Godspeed Brakes 20 September 2013 10:54 AM

Apparently they are restructuring and will be back open soon

kevfawcett 20 September 2013 11:04 AM

Posted from their facebook page half an hour ago!:

'COMPOMOTIVE wheels have NOT gone bust... only the factory that used to make them = Components Automotives 73 ltd. COMPOMOTIVE will be back soon after restructuring the brand. Please do not believe all what you read on the net.'

RESSE 20 September 2013 12:02 PM

I posted what was reported in a newspaper, whether accurate or not who knows.

ALi-B 20 September 2013 01:50 PM
